I have been golfing for a lot of years now, I have never shot par or under par for 18 holes. Today I shot 70 on a par 72. I have changed my workout and I am 20lbs lighter. Also have been working on a swing change, using my lower body more. Watch a guy on YouTube "secret in the dirt" and it has changed my game.
Well congrats ole friend! Its nice reaching goals! But man I didnt know you were a golfer, so im assuming you wear those hidious golf shoes you guys wear? you know the ones that look like bowling shoes?
I thought you were going to say you slimmed down enough to take some pressure off that pink tank top.
Hey! Leave Germ alone! He's been working on getting that score down to be the Detroit Putt Putt World champion for a lot of years now. Great job Germ! I got your back buddy!!!!!
Tiger Woods will be contacting you shortly to see who your coach is. :p Congrats on your accomplishment !!
Finally navigated the windmill huh? Just kidding man, congrats on the accomplishment. Often overlooked part of the golf swing is the lower body and core. Very important piece to the puzzle. Do you attribute it to all swing change or anything mental/management? I've found once you get to a certain level in your physical golf swing, to get to the next level (aside from tinkering) it's mainly mental and course management. Very deep topic for a different thread lol, but I was just curious if you worked on anything like that.
Yes I have really worked on thinking about what I am going to do and commit to my shot. I did not commit to two shots yesterday and I got lucky. I hit a duck hook that got lucky and I pushed an approach shot. I also have work on keeping my arms away from my body at the top. I tend to collapse my right elbow(lh). My biggest change is having my lower body be my engine.
This is 100% true. There's a fine line between a scratch golfer and a 8 handicap. The swings are usually very good and are examples of good fundamentals. Those extra strokes are course management and for me personally...a good short game. I can drive for show but cannot bring home the dough. Great work Germ!
The biggest change was I am able to hit 180-200 yd shot now. I was always good from 150 yds and in. I was a very "handies" player. This cause me to hit some terrible duck hooks with clubs 5 iron and higher. I used to hit a mean power mallard. About 10 feet of the ground and sceaming left to right(I am LH). I have watch most of the Haney projects and one thing he preaches is you have to think about what you are going to do. So many times in the past I would just start swinging away. I was a legit 7 handicap the last 6 years, I went up a bit the last two due to the balk on put on. Fact I now have confidence I can hit a ball 200 yds to a green has taken a ton of stress off my driver. I am thinking about getting a set of Ping Irons, I have the G-15 fairway woods and love them.
Germ, he is a little T'd off at your recent success as it may impact Happy's run at the title.....I am sending him your way.
Being old, out of shape, never had a lesson and been hacking for 20 years.... I got to tell you.... no way in hell would that be one of my goals. I'm thrilled when I finish a round with all the balls I started with LOL Congrats germ.
Congrats on your great round Germ! I am sadly closer to a bogie player than par...much less breaking par
That right there is the key my friend! I don't want to get too Zen on you. I could go on for days about the mental aspects of golf and how they coorelate to the physical performance. The thing with committing to a shot is, it's something you can't just tell yourself you're going to do ... or do. You have to truly be committed in your noggin to the shot. Really strong sensation when that is actually taking place. Especially for an entire round of golf. Seems like you've tapped into it. Like I said before once you reach a certain level in your golf swing there isn't that much more you can do (aside from slight adjustments). To go lower most of it's in your noggin and focus. Very difficult to get there. p.s. I never even knew you golfed.
