    HELLO ALL,

This season I am planning on TRYING to videotape my hunts. I know that this is a very difficult task, but the reward will be great.

I am looking into two different camera options: A GoPro camera or a Handheld HD video camera. Being that i am just starting out I am not looking for something that is top of the line from the start. I am looking to spend about $400 on a camera and then after I get it I would buy all of the extras needed.

Does anyone have any recommendations on a camera? What are the pros and cons when using these two types of cameras?
Also what is any advice you can give someone just starting out?

    Thanks for the help,
    Trent

My advice to you is EBay EBay EBay! Four 400 bucks you can get a really good handheld hd camcorder and a gopro no problem. Check out the canon vixia line, they are awesome for the price if you buy used. Save some money to buy a decent tree arm and tripod as well.

I would go the camcorder route. Don't think gopros have a zoom even.

Without question a camcorder. POV cameras are nice but sound generally sucks, no zoom feature. Great for second angles but not a primary camera.

Between those I would go with a handheld for that price range.

With that being said, take a look at Contour Roam POV cameras instead of GoPro. GoPro is highly advertised and is why most people choose them but I got a Contour Roam this spring and have used it snow goose hunting so far and absolutely love it! Much, much easier to use than a GoPro. Just something to think about.

My videos are done with one of those handheld Kodak Zx5 cams. Waterproof, but no analog zoom. Decent sound, but no external mike. Cheap.
