I am glad our season didn't start today. No way I would have been in my stand. We have gotten 3.5 inches of rain from the remnants of Hurricane Ike since midnight last night and its not done yet. I love to hunt, but I ain't sitting in that. It is suppose to stop later today and be nice for the opener tomorrow. Now I just have to figure out which stands I can still get to. I hunt around a lot of small creeks here and I know they will be out of their banks for a while. Time to head to HIGH GROUND!!
Your telling me. One of my seasons opened on Saturday.. and I've been in watching it rain like haitis for the past 36 hours. I did manage a 2 hour sit last night.. but all I saw was water.. and alot of it. Got up at 3:30 am to see if I could sneak out this morning.. but it was still raining. :mad1: So I went back to bed.
We had over 7" of rain yesterday and half of Chicago and the suburbs are flooded. And it looks like it isn't going to end for another day or so.
We've been without power since 5 a.m.... got it back briefly for about 10 minutes and then we've been out again for the last hour... my 3d targets are scattered across the yard. If it's this strong here now, I can't imagine what it would have been like in Houston before it had 15 hours of land to weaken over. Got the mega-battery powered up on the laptop with the Sprint air card going now.
We had to help a neighbor with a flooded basement yesterday, boatload of rain and the pond overflowed. My Brother and Sister in law live in Missouri City, a suburb of Houston. They came out ok but their neighbor three doors down lost their roof and they have no power still down where they are at.
We've had rain for 3 days, but only added up to a couple of inches. Didn't get as much as was predicted. Sorry for all those down south, & having to deal with all that.
Here in east Texas it has been a mess. I lost power Saturday for most of the day. My daughters rabbit hutch got flipped over. The rabbits had been moved to safety in her room friday night, and thanks to dads MAD SKILLS at carpentry the hutch survived unscathed, lol! My pond is overflowing into my niebhors pasture and I'm worried about losing some of the fine bass I have in there. The lawn furniture was all placed safely in the barn. My bag target was blown over. All in all we were blessed. No permanent damage except for a couple of downed trees. I have friends in Houston that didn't fare so well and they may soon be coming to stay for a while.
