Just call them, you don't have to tell them who you are if you're nervous about holding a grudge with you. Ask them if they do FFL tranfers or match competitors pricing from online retailers. Tell them the make, model, website and price. Odds are they'll do something to help you out, whether it's coming as close to their price or doing the transfer. They could say no, but there's only one way to find out. Option B would be to find a private FFL or transfer it to your base. You're worrying about it too much and if you handle it the wrong way or continually return after the sale the shop could just tell you to take your business elsewhere. You're coming off as hard to please, why should they comp you range time for tax savings? The tax difference doesn't come out of their pocket.
Of course I'm hard to please. I do realize that taxes aren't something they pocket, but why have myself pay $30 when I could save that? I'm also probably confusing the hell out of you guys. I just do a lot of number crunching = / just the way I am. A stingy bastard
Which is why I pose my questions on here as I know that my way of thinking don't totally align with reasonable people = )
Well, dont know if anyone cares. But thought of more fees, the price may be lower online, but I need to factor in transfer fees AND the background check. Should only be $35-$50, but heck if they match the price online or come within $10, the taxes id have to pay would be on par with the background check + transfer fee. Looks like ill be swinging by tomorrow. Getting .22LR rounds is going to be another issue. Hard to find them at 11 cents a round.
