Hello Everyone, As I run around the neighborhood im finding more and more encounters with dogs off their leash. Some small some large some aggressive some friendly. I will eventually be finding another place to run, but in the meantime id like to be protected. So ive bought a handheld mace spray that can be strapped to my wrist, with my dog being returned to me, im thinking about buying a handgun to have more accuracy as mace with mace both my dog and the other dog. Looking for your opinions on concealed carry. Glock 42 and S&W Shield most likely 9mm possibly 45 come into mind. Do you guys have any other recommendations from those two models? Im trying to stick to them as they provide great discounts to the military. On another note, im thinking about also getting a regular handgun, between Glock 19 4Gen (I need the interchangeable grips as I have small hands) and the S&W 9mm. Also looking to get those small guns as I will be wearing underarmor shorts and shirts so I dont want the gun to be imprinting on me while I run and scaring the neighbors. I am also looking for ways to conceal. Please comment below with what you prefer for me and my situation and any other comments would be appreciated.
I recently got a gen 4 glock 19 and love it. I put a set of trijicon HD night sights on it and it is kicking ***. I can conceal carry this easy as it is small and light enough. With the blue label program your better off with a bigger discount from glock as well.
Depend on what you will wear everytime. I wear AIWB. With a regular shirt on you really cant tell. Unique situation though for running.
The 42 is only 380, the Shield is 9 or 40. I have the shield 9 and it's a nice, very concealable piece (1" thick). I also see them going for less than $400. If you have your heart set on a concealable Glock, the 26 or 27 would probably be your best bet. A little thicker than the Shield, but still small enough.
I am a S&W dude. I love my M&P .40 but I've been looking for another and their M&P Shield is the ticket. It's slim and should be easy to conceal.
The gen 4 glocks do not have a small handle. They only allow you to go bigger than the original gen 3's. I would buy a G19 if it were me.
I have a gen 2 32c in .357sig which Is my main CC. When running I carry my 42. If you want something for running your better off with the glock 42 or S&W bodyguard or shield. .380 is more then Enough for what you need.
Hmm interesting I didnt know you could only go larger with gen 4. Now I just need to find a place that has glock 42 that participates in the blue shield program. or the S&W Military program, I found Quantico Tactical that participates in the S&W Military discount, but it'll cost $20 to ship + FFL, think its worth it?
I carry the 42 everyday, and barely notice it on me. It's a great gun and will get the job done. Don't get wrapped up in the whole "it's only a .380"... They will do more than enough damage, and it's not like you are gonna stop at one shot.
Check budsgunshop.com....you still have ffl fees but I've hit some great prices on there and I believe they do the discount...not 100%...give them a call
Yup got the Blue label list. I ended up buying a Glock 26. Here is my story if anyone cares to read. I knew this store wasn't blue label as I did my research. Anyways walked into their store and I was greeted immediately and had very helpful people allow me to look at all the guns. It was between the S&W, Springfield, and Glock. After looking at all of them, I found I didnt like the S&W and Springfield slim guns but liked the way the glock 26 fit, most likely because the shield and xds were single stack while 26 was double stack. Anyways I asked the guy if they were blue label, he said he didn't know but that he would check into it, if they weren't then they could get fairly close to the price they bought it for. When he "checked" he said that this gun wasn't in blue label program (I'm pretty sure he would've known if his store was blue label without having to check the specific gun). But He said he could go from $607 to $525, I told him the blue label was $398, but he corrected me and said $475. I though that wasn't true, but at the same time I thought that maybe glock had raised their prices recently, I figured the guy had no reason to lie. I asked him to throw in some range time which he did 3 hours ~$60 to make up the $525 to $475 difference. To make this anti climatic story short, I ended up buying it, but also came back and used the internet along with asking my friend who is LEO to double check the blue label pricing. He confirmed it at $398, and Buds gun shop online had the gun listed at $500. My only other option besides this store would have been to drive 1.5 hours and then also wait for the gun to come in (which ive heard is months and I may not be here for the ~180 days that ive heard people waiting). Or Buds Gun shop, but it would have been $500 w/ free shipping + $20 FFL so it wouldn't have made a difference. All said, I don't mind as much paying for their upcharge for my convenience, what I didn't like was them lying to me (willingly, or unwillingly) and saying that the blue label price was $475. My research also showed that that could have been near their cost as they may have bought the glocks off another dealer thereby not getting the full Glock Dealer discount. If that is the case, they shouldn't call it blue label pricing = \ I know im not the only one they're pulling this off on as there are a bunch of military around here. I do tend to believe that people are generally honest, i've got a feeling he pulled one over on me.
Just want to add, that the moment he said "he didnt know if they were blue label" I felt like he was being shady. I for some reason never follow my gut, it only persisted as we talked and I should have walked out of that store. As you can see, its bugging me!
At least you got some range time with the deal. My blue label dealer sells glocks @425 w/ 3 mags. The 26 is a nice one too.
I'm glad to see you went with the glock. I love my 2 models. My gen 2 is built like a tank. The gen 3&4 aren't as durable as the gen 1&2s but still stand up to the test of time.
Yea I had to have them throw it in though so that . This issue is bugging me too much, im going to privately talk to the guy tomorrow if he's there, let him know that his customer service was great, but that I checked the price and it doesn't line up with what he said. Ill give him one chance to make things right with me (the only option I see without him returning the gun or throwing things at me, would be more range time). Ill only ask for the equivalent amount of the difference with what he charged me and what the blue label is, if he doesn't, then ill use my range card that I originally got, never come back, and never recommend that place to anyone I know. Id say it's quite fair to be comped with range time as it doesn't cost them as much as it would cost them giving me money back or other items from the store. If they offer me a shirt, well id be pissed. Yea, im actually thinking about getting a springfield xds for the slimmer profile, haha. Maybe smith and wesson since its cheaper! Im also about to buy a Glock 19 tomorrow off my friend who is leaving for korea.
I picked up(well I will Monday) an xds 9mm Friday. I was torn between that and the glock 26 Gen 4, but opted for the slim design. I don't ever plan on needing it, but if I do and I can't make 8 shots count then I need to think about a little more range time lol. I'll have an extra mag regardless.
