Since I am only using this gun for bear protection one would think I'm worried about accuracy, but truth be told I'm not.

Rumors abound online that the factory barrels can't take the stress of those super hot loads slinging hard cast bullets at the same speeds of much smaller FMJ loads. They try to indicate it isn't safe to shoot these loads (although the ammo manufacturers claim otherwise and I can find zero solid proof of this).

I doubt I ever drop the coin on one, but a Lone Wolf Barrel would be the only upgrade I ever make.

The only problem I've ever seen is mainly in the 40's. They were all hand loads. I know after market barrels fit tighter around the case than a stock barrel so all the pressure goes out of the barrel. Where a stock barrel is larger to help avoid jams. Makes sense but all depend on what/how you are shooting.

I have the new 42 in .380 auto which I carry daily and love. I am shopping around for a Gen4 Glock 34 as we speak.

    Great guns.

I really like everything about the 42 except the fact that it's a .380. I kind of feel like there are a ton of smaller and more compact options for .380. If/when they release this same frame and size pistol in a 9mm I'll be all over it. I currently have a P238 that I carry when it's hot out and I'm wearing summer type clothes, but I'd unload it in a heartbeat for a reliable Glock of the same size in 9mm.

Hoping that in 9mm comes out sometime soon even though I have a feeling it wont be for another year.

I don't subscribe to the whole caliber bickering thing. I'm not a cop or about to face someone in body armor anytime soon. I can't think of a single situation I would ever be in where 8 bullets of .380 is not going to get me out of where 8 of 9mm would.

I also have a P238..........gave it to the wife to carry now. Also have a S+W Airweight 38 revolver and a Springfield XDs in 45 ACP for carry options as well. The Glock shoots very very well and sits IWB like a dream.

I love the feel of the 42 we got in at the range and I feel it is what I'll introduce my wife to guns with if she ever finally gets that itch...but I agree in the .380 caliber my Kel Tec P380 is a ton smaller, same capacity and goes bang ever time....glock's oversized offering is selling only because it is a Glock to men, but to small inexperienced shooters I think it is an awesome option!

for you 42/single stack fans, have you ever tried carrying a 26? Just as short, barely wider, and 10 rounds (or more if you use 19 mags.) And you get to use +P 9mm instead of .380 rounds.

Single stacks for inside the waist band carry atleast for me are a ton more comfortable and more concealable. It's true at times you are talking less than half and inch if not nearly only a 1/4 an inch width difference...but man comfort wise that helps. I currently depending on apparel either conceal carry my G19 IWB or my Kel Tec P3AT in a pocket (that one is always one me no matter if G19 is or not). The G42 is a size that doesn't make sense at all for .380 and it should have had magazine capacity of 7+1 if you ask me because the P3AT crams 6 in a much much smaller package. To me the sole purpose or use behind a G42 is first time shooters, recoil sensitive people and priming the market for a single stack 9 we all know is waiting to be released.

It isn't even about the caliber discussion as to why people should or shouldn't dog on the G42. The .380 is basically a slightly lighter 9mm...duh. But .380 has it's place and use depending on the shooter and the designated carry style...besides the fact with modern ammunition it can pack a punch worthy of taking a bad guy down with two to the chest. It's the smallest caliber I would ever carry personally for self defense, but agree 9mm is slightly better depending on how you have to carry given apparel and job.

yeah, I get you. Everyone should carry whatever they are comfortable/practiced with. I was just laying out there that a double stack G26 is only marginally bigger than a 42 (admittedly it is noticeably heavier) and packs 2x the punch (both in caliber and in capacity.)

    either way, carry on!

agreed except not sure what ballistics you are speaking of but a 9mm even +P is not double the punch performance wise. Like I said though I personally agree and do carry a double stack more than anything.

from the Hornady web site, their 90 gr .380 ammo produces 200-165 ftlbs of energy (at muzzle - 50ft, respectively)
    their 135gr 9mm+P ammo produces 369-324 ftlbs (at muzzle - 50ft, respectively)

324 ftlbs (the 9mm) is 98% more than 165 lbs (the .380); or nearly 2x as much energy or "punch" as I referred to it.
50ft = ~16 yards, which is not all that far away and a completely reasonable/realistic pistol engagement range.

Glock 32c in .357 sig is what I carry. With a +2 on the mag that 14rds + 1 in the pipe. With my de Santis holster I don't even know i have it on. I'm waiting on my glock 42 to come in. Will be giving that too the GF which will be replacing the S&W bodyguard she has.

Be curious to see how she likes it...I bet she'll shoot it better but may not like the "no laser"...seems to be the sentiments of many of the BG shooters who try it out at the range.

The G42 is an awesome gun. I just hate the .380. Hopefully they will chamber it in 9mm soon

Not soon...but it is definitely a primer on the market for the single stack 9mm glock undoubtedly on it's way. If I were to guess I would say 2016 sometime...with earliest confirmations being LATE next year....

O yea I will be looking forward to that one. I bet it will be so hard to get if ever released for years to come too.
