I think one of the few things that scientist will agree on regarding GW is that it's cyclic. So, if that's the case, how much of a role has man played?

Very true but our planet also hasn't had to deal with 7-8 billion people on the planet. All of which are doing something to damage the Earth. With all the pollution, vanishing ecosystems, gas emissions, methane levels, disappearing glaciers, etc...I find it very fascinating that people actually believe that humans aren't having any negative impact on our planet. And on top of that, I find it extremely alarming that the majority of my fellow hunters, the ones who spend the majority of their recreational time enjoying the woods, believe this to be some random "cycle". Baffling.

Humans do not affect the Earth as much as we like to think.

    Trust me.

I'm with Hooker. I think "some of" these scientists have an inflated view of how much we affect the Earth. "Doom and Gloom" is alive and well!

I'm all for being a good steward......if it doesn't collide with hysteria.

    Define a "cycle".

Jared Diamond discusses this very well in his book Collapse http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Collapse_(book). Haiti suffers because they cut down all their trees. The Dominican Republic thrives because theirs are still standing. The collapse of the population of Easter Island. He investigates, through historical and modern-day examples, how societies large and small fell apart. Overpopulation, deforestation, and higher per-capita resource use were the biggest factors. Our society, and a growing part of the global society, are heading down the similar roads as did the Hatians and the Mayans.

Course, the ride down might be a whole lot of fun :D:D:D

Over any period of time, one would expect the average temperatures to be different. For instance, if the average temperature in your city this year was exactly the same as the average temperature for your city last year, you would suspect a problem. It might be in the measurement, or the calculation of the average, or the thermometers used or any one of a number of different things. You would expect there to be a difference.

Now let’s say that you took the average over the last ten years (1998 – 2007) and compared that to the average over the previous ten years (1988 – 1997). If those two averages were the same, you would expect a problem. You know that those numbers will be different, because it is in the nature of the beast. Weather changes. The temperatures go up and they go down. That’s the way it’s always been and that’s the way it will always be. Plus we have more people, more animals and more vehicles that are "warming the air with CO2".

So when the global warming alarmists declare that the average global temperature has gone up over the past 100 years, you would have to say, sure, why not? Temperature changes. It changes every single day, sometimes from hour to hour. Why would anyone expect the global average temperature to be exactly the same this year as it was last year, or 100 years ago? Nasa claims a 1.44 degree Fahrenheit change over 100 years!

Since we would expect the average temperature to be different, the question to ask is why is a 1-degree average change over 100 years of any importance? We know we would not expect it to be unchanging. What was the average global temperature supposed to be? You will not be able to find that question answered anywhere by any global warming alarmist. Considering the population boom over the last 100 years it seems highly suspicious that there is a 1.44 degree variance from the early 1900's when most people were driving a horse and buggy instead of a fossil fuel burning combustion machine;)

We are believing scientists when we still can't get 10 biologists to agree on a deers age from tooth wear. Obviously there can be a higher variance of tooth wear for a 4 year old buck than we are seeing with the temperatures of Earth for the last century;)

I call B.S. on Global Warming as we have seen cooling phases throughout the century as population numbers have gone up. More people need more transportation, more vehicles, more food and ultimately increase the carbon footprint. Sadly a recent study that was published said that one dog has twice the carbon footprint of a full size SUV!

whether climate change is real or not we should all
    1) recycle more
    2) drive less
    3) be as eco-friendly as possible without stressing oneself financially, physically, etc :)

    because,
    a) it doesn't hurt anyone to do all this
    b) it can only help the environment regardless of whether climate change is real or not :)

Considering Toba erupted about 75,000 YEARS AGO (give or take a few thousand years.........but definitely more than 100!), I have a hard time lending ANY credence to cycles that cite "100yrs" (or ANYWHERE close to that).....lol.

According to most scientists.....the mean temp. on Earth never rose above freezing for several subsequent years.

Also......In the year 1901, Antarctica, Central Africa and South America, and most of Siberia had no weather stations. So where are they getting their data? Who's manning these weather stations? How is the data being derived?

So the Earth "hiccups"....and we're supposed to base millions of years, now, on 100 years or so (actually a LOT less than that in many models)??????

    Pardon the skepticism.

Considering what's at stake, wouldn't it be more prudent to be cautious than reckless?

Who's collecting/deciphering that data? Do they ALL agree with the findings?

What is at stake? Global Warming is a farce. I agree with recycling but I am gonna drive my truck till the wheels fall off. I'm also in the market for a GT500 even though the government wants me to pay a premium under the gas guzzler tax:(

Yeah. And imagine how much money would go their way if the hippies came back and said....

    "we're cool" (no pun intended).

I heard a good one a few years ago. Some "scientist" was promoting cattle wearing diapers (due to....well......you know).

Sadly, our tax $$ are funding &$%@ like that (again...lol...no pun intended)!

I really wish they would read their Bible. God said seedtime and harvest would remain until the end of the earth. This tells me, no matter what, seedtime and harvest will be here until we are gone.

And besides that, we have 17 & 18 Degrees in our forecast lows with wind chills dipping into the single digits. In Louisiana people!!!

Al Gore needs to be put in a cage with Obama and floated down the river of thieves.

    *sigh*

I guess I don't really understand the whole subject like I thought I did.

Can anyone explain or point me to some of the opposing views to global warming, that don't resort to political straw man arguments?
