What is truly ironic is what the Earth was like in the days of the Dinosaur. If I remember correctly the continents were just starting to drift apart and Earth was a Tropical Environment.

Some time later a big Asteroid smashes Earth and the dust cloud causes a lack of sun and creates an overall cooling period. Many of the big beasts die and we enter the Ice Age. The Grand Canyon itself was carved by one of these melting glacial masses. As I see it the Ice caps and Ice shelves have been melting for thousands of years and we have seen a total increase in temperature of Earth of 1.33 degrees, that is right 1.33 degrees in the last 100 years time. Below is a great graph, right after World War 2 until the Mid 70's there was a cooling period before another trend in increased temperatures.

Hopefully the 3100 bucks per household we will pay under cap and trade will reduce this massive trend in which the "Scientists" predict a rate of global warming in the 21st century that will be 7 to 10 times what we saw in the 20th century, even though we are using cleaner burning fuels, have cars that burn less fuel, are using cleaner burning coal.

In the end we will pay for this pollution tariff while our government watches jobs go overseas so countries like China can continue to pollute the Earth and produce goods and services cheaper. Has anyone factored yet that the Earth goes through weather cycles and changes because it is not a perfect environment? The Farmers Almanac has predicted shifts in weather for decades that do not coincide with pollution or greenhouse gasses. Al Gore should be shot for Treason, he has committed an act against us that will change our way of life and make us suffer while he sits in one of the greatest pollution contributing homes in America.

What's really amazing is that people are more worried about Global Warming than a Nuclear Holocaust. Geesh!! Does anyone not read the Word?

    Politics. . . :busted:

My opinion on this topic will likely be less than popular . . but I would challenge anyone who REALLY thinks that Gore is an idiot to graduate with honors from Harvard University, serve 8 years as vice president of the United States of America, write a best seller and try to do something that changes the world for the better ;) . . . or, just go to your local college and sign up for NatSci 101. Will climate change occur on its own? Yes. Does humanity speed up this process, exponentially? Abso-flippin’-lutely! And in ways that. . . well, I'll let it go. I have a feeling that some of you are listening to way too much Rush :deer:

Can't remember off the top of my head, but when was the last a warming of this magnitude occurred over a time span that short?

Gore graduated from Harvard with honors, yeah. GW graduated from Yale and the got an MBA through Harvard Business School, the only president in history to get an MBA. Where does that leave us???

The Temperature of Earth has changed less than 2 degrees through the entire industrial revolution and population boom that has never been seen on Earth in a 100 year period. Two degrees in one hundred years is not Exponential now is it? 100 years ago how many cars were on the road? How did we see a period of cooling from 1945-1976 when more and more people were buying and running lead burning gasoline cars? None of what I have said has been heard listening to Rush, Fox, or any other right wing group. Most of what we are hearing on Global warming is stemming from our Liberals, go figure.

I'm not sure, to my knowledge Jesus didn't carry around a Thermometer. Seems we have only been keeping accurate world temps for 100-200 years. The Grand Canyon was carved by a melting glacier ages ago, did cars and coal burning power plants contribute to that warming period? Here is a great little read from a 501C organization that has no political motive--- http://www.heartland.org/policybot/results/11548/February_2003_Eight_Reasons_Why_Global_Warming_Is_a_Scam.html

Where is Atlas on this, haha. I just hope your favorite coastal golf course doesn't fall victim to this tragedy and sway you to the Al Gore camp;)

    Proof?

Humans contribute approximately 0.3% of the greenhouse gases within the atmosphere. Greenhouse gases make up less than 1% of the atmosphere.

Would you like to know the most potent greenhouse gas? Water Vapor. Now how are humans going to control water vapor when 71% of the earth is covered with water?

BTW, none of this info came from Rush, it came from when I was researching global cooling while obtaining my degree in Environmental Science.

Proof? Call me crazy but I'm just going off of what I've learned from my science proffessors, here in Columbus  Me: Cumulative GPA 3.808, an IQ of. .well, lets just say I do fairly well in that category, also ;) But then again, I'm not a science major. You're right. Perhaps millions of us really are stupid :tu:

"This magnitude" is priceless why? A 1.5 degree temperature raise for certain environments can be extremely harsh, no? ;)

Naturally occurring climatological cycles have caused the trend. However, there is no denying that atmospheric concentrations of CO2 and other green house gases have spiked significantly in the past years since the Industrial Revolution (comparatively through ice cores, etc to about as far back as most want to go). Again, I've said it multiple times I do not think climate change is man made at all. However, ignoring the fact that change is occurring and that could possibly be altered even in the slightest by humans could lead to dire consequences. Are we causing it? No. Are we contributing to it? Jury's still out.

And, the earth's natural cycle may cause this to occur every 60,000 years and that is part of the reason for concern. Never has the earth seen a spike as rapid as the current occurrences which is why many wonder what kind of effects it will have on our ecosystems.

Where do you find the basis on your statement that the Earth has never seen a spike as rapid as the current occurrences????

Ice core stratigraphy (sp?), some dendrochronology, etc.

Adaptation won't be necessary. Barry Hussain will most likely be fireing pollution particles into the stratosphere to deflect the sun's heat...........therefore saving the earth.

He truely is the world savior. [IMG]
