Ok, here is an area on our farm I've struggled with. Pictures may not give it justice as to how steep and thick the area is. I'm pretty confident that the bucks are or will stay in the thick stuff if the Creek while the does are out in the field...just trying to figure out my best plan of attack.
I would look into the end of the green "Y" almost right in the middle of the page between the 2 fields. During the rut I would try to find a saddle or set up on a ridge between the 2 doe bedding areas.
Have you tried sitting that trail between both doe bedding areas? Seems like right now would be a greay time to do so with some kind of north wind.
Its steep as **** to get there, or you have to cross just below the left bedding area, I've never been able to access that trail without bumping deer.
You got a LW brah ... Pick a tree in one of the hedgerows intercept them on the way to the food. They won't know what hit them.
Yeah in have a stand there already, in the SW corner (which is actually the NE, the map is rotated. The food plot stand has a red 40 on it, they are hammering the FP after shooting light. I actually saw the deer come out the trail at the first pink dot on the left. I'm thinking the pink don't to the right of that???
If that is a flat area at the Y then I would possibly look there. The bucks may stage and check does when they're heading to the food plot. Also have to watch how close you get to the hill, thermals will carry your scent right to the bucks if you get in too early. Where is your camera located? Right on the food plot? Also, what time are you getting those pictures?
Yeah it is a flat area that comes from really steep to that. I had originally thought right at the Y but its too thick I believe, that was my thought in early season when they came out there. The camera is on the left of the food plot, and right at or after dark. I watched then come out feed in the big field and then make their way to the food plot.
If you're seeing bucks coming out in the big field, then they might be coming off of that point along the property line. If it's as steep as you say then they'd take that point, cutting down or following it all the way to the end. Another route would be them going around the same general way the does travel. If so, this would make the small wood line shooting out toward the left side of the plot a great place to set up. Bucks would hang in the cover until dark. Id really do everything possible to hunt that in the morning. Like VS said, between the bedding areas would be ideal at this time of the year. Having a LW, maybe try the outside/in approach? Just hang on the outskirts to check things out then start working closer and closer.
