im looking to get my gf a bow to shoot and eventually hunt with. so all you girls that hunt, or if you know a girl that does, wat is your/her draw weight and draw length? my gf is around 5'3" so itll be a shorter draw length and ik there are charts and i could guess close but i just figured real numbers are better that guesses. also if anyone knows any good reliable bows that are low priced or old enough to be low priced i need help with that too lol my plan is to just get her started and if she takes to bow hunting we can upgrade her down the road. thanks everyone
I purchased my daughters and girlfriend the Diamond Razor Edge. For women and kids it's a great bow and for the price. All setup ready to hunt at $329. I suggest you take her to a pro shop or two and let her try a few bows to see what her length, weight is and so she can determine which bow she likes best! Good luck!
I'm 5'3 and my draw length is 23 and a half. I set my draw weight to 34 because this is my first year so I want to make sure my form is good before getting up to 40. My husband got me the Diamond Razor Edge and I love it plus it wasn't real expensive. It's awesome seeing more girls get into the sport, I hope she enjoys it and good luck!
I'm 5' 4" and have a 26" draw and my primary hunting bow (Bowtech Equalizer) is set at 40lbs. Be sure to have her get measured at a pro shop for draw length. People who are the same height don't necessarily have the same draw length. Mission has some good bows to start with, as does Diamond. They are not too expensive and highly adjustable.
The Mr5 or MR6 would be great choices for someone who has a short DL and cannot pull a large poundage. At a short DL 27" or under, the BH become faaaaaaar less important and those bows are pretty smooth at the lower weights but they are really speedy to give her some extra "free" speed.
Getting my wife a Hoyt Ruckus, most womens and youth bows have a large range for DL and weight. Best thing is take her to a shop and write the check after the shop owner sell her a bow.
Have her spread her arms out wide and measure her wingspan. Divide that number by 2.5- this should be close to her draw. For me, that was my exact draw length. On a side note, I'll be buying a Diamond Razor Edge for the girlfriend within the next few months I think.
I bought my wife a hoyt kobalt last year from eagle archery while they still had them in stock for 299$ bare. limbs adjust from 40-50 lbs, shes at 45. draw length adjusts from 18-28", she draws 25". It weight a little over 3 lbs and is around 27" ATA. Its a great starter bow, is relatively quiet, smooth drawing, and fast enough to get the job done with her magnus stinger broadheads. Id highly recommend this bow to a female or youth archer on account of its adjustability as they progress in the sport.
we got my wife the PSE chaos one in pink camo, and its a really nice bow to shoot. i took her in to the shop to pick her own bow, it made it that much better of an experience for her. i didnt want to press my views and opinions on her and make her get the bow i thought was right for her. i believe this is really important. she dosent really wanna hunt, but i think i may have her thinking about turkey hunting... keep praying guys!
This is the Bow I got for my wife. She's 5'8 DL was around 27 IIRC. we looked at the Mission Craze and a couple others but the Ruckus was much lighter and allowed a lot of flexibility so as she got more involved we could make a lot of adjustments to it. I think we got it all decked out for about $360. Good luck on the decision.
thanks everyone! the archery shop i go to has mostly hoyt and mathews so i think ill have her try the ruckus and that new mission bow, i cant remember the name of it right now, if she doesnt love one of them well keep searchin from there
Wife shot the Mission for 2 years and just could not get it to group well with lower poundage.. We got her the Bowtech Diamond Razor's Edge and she is good to 30 yards.. Might have just been her, but that bow is awsome for females.. Mission just may not have been for her, who knows..
I just got my gf into bowhunting last year. My best advice would be to not skimp on her gear, she is not going to have fun with cheap gear. You want to make sure that they have fun right off the bat and they will be hooked. My gf is only 5'0" and has a 23" draw length and I bought her a Diamond Razors Edge. It is a great shooting bow and she has a lot of fun. She is drawing about 45# and that is plenty to take down a deer. I had a lot of people tell me that she wouldn't be able to take one with that draw length/weight combo, but she got a complete passthrough on a doe last year using Magnus Stinger 2-blades at 20 yards. Also, make sure you take it slow with her learning and just have fun, we went through a lot of practice arrows but now mine is laying 2-3 inch groupings at 25 yeards.
