Anyone know of someone that does good head mounts on Antelope in this area or close to this area. I'm heading out next week and would really like to get one mounted. It doesn't have to be huge for me to mount so I'm guessing I'll be able to get something. From what I've read it sounds like the best idea is to just leave it there and have someone with experience mount it due to the hair slippage and some other factors.

By leaving it there I'm also ensuring that I have to go back out next year to hunt and pick it up.

When I was there a few years ago some of our group left theirs ther to be mounted, but I don't know who did them.

Go to a local sporting goods store and they will probably have some mounts hanging up with the Taxi's name on a plate or maybe even some of his cards or flyers. Ask around at the store or archery shop.

The taxidermist the guys used a few years ago was a guy named Dustin @ Trophy Taxidermy in Gillette. I've seen a few of his antelope and they are nice. I guess he's won awards in that category. He also did another friend's Mule Deer.

I think you're right, from what I gather if you just look at an antelope cape wrong you can cause hair slippage. Keep it as clean and blood free as possible and get it cooled down quickly.
I had my head and cape frozen and UPS blue Labeled back to me with the meat, and it cost a fortune.....the mount came out great though done by a guy locally here in PA.

And just to get you fired up!.........(go ahead John put your pics up too ;) )

Thanks for the information. I'll hopefully have to look into calling that number.

Oh and Justin......do yourself a favor if you do need to get an antelope mounted and have whatever taxidermist you choose use a WALL PEDESTAL style form. There isn't much to an antelope across the shoulders and a wall pedestal style gives the mount (IMO) a nicer fuller look and you get more for your money than a straight shoulder style.

I have killed a couple of antelope in Wyoming. I took a nice one with the bow last year. I caped it out, put it on ice wrapped up in a plastic bag to keep it dry and brought it home with me. I think the taxidermist did a good job with it. I had mine done in a pedestal mount. I have not found or made a pedestal for it yet. Still looking for just the right thing. They will keep fine if you take the proper steps. Ask a local taxidermist how to prepare it to bring it home. IMG_0133.jpg
