So I've been successful taking deer on the ground with leafy type suits. My suit is about 15 years old. I recently got a Ghillie suit and have been trimming it for bowhunting. This thing seems like it might be the cat's meow. Any of you actually bowhunt with a Ghillie suit? Any tips? Sent from my SM-S902L using Tapatalk
Why yes, yes I do! This is my second year using one. I do not put it on until I get to the stand, for obvious reasons. It gets hung up on everything. However, I use a crossbow, so your results may vary. The best thing about it, is that you can really hunt anywhere! My favorite thing to do is to find a patch of mountain laurel, or batch of small pine trees, and hop in!! Clear the leaves and stuff from underneath me, a few little snips to clear shooting lanes, and I’m hunting. I sit on the ground on Alps grand slam turkey vest/chair. I’ve been divebombed by owls and hawks who have caught my eyes moving. Unfortunately I do not have a lot of deer encounter experiences with one because of where I hunt. I only have one, and he was at 15 yards. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
The hunting public just posted a video of zach using one to shoot an extremely nice buck right in his bed. I've thought about getting one and using it for both deer and turkey, and that hunt may be what pushes me over the edge. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums

I've got a rancho safari ghillie suit. The concealment is awesome but the smell is aweful. The burlap and other materials used to make it have a strong odor. I've done everything I can to minimize the odor. I've burried it, smoked it, and left it outside in the elements for months. The website says game doesn't notice/mind the smell. My experience has been otherwise. As far as just hunting on the ground I've had success in regular camo. Find some cover to break up your outline and sit still. Draw when they look away.
Ghillie suit, no. 3D leafy bug suit, yes. Even though I use a thermocell, there are times it has saved me, particularly on the walk in or out.
