After having two knee surgeries last year, I am having difficulty climbing trees and treestands. Thinking about getting one of those ghillie suits. Has anyone used one? What are some of the pros/cons? I understand that there will be extensive trimming to be done around arm and chest area. Thanx
I have used one a couple of times mainly turkey hunting. The manufactured ones are rather hot and have a lot of odor. You can soak them in a tub of water and baking soda and it helps quite a bit. You really don't need the pants and the hood will likely get in your way. A well trimmed jacket and some facepaint will work just fine. Watch your background and move slowly. Good luck.
I bought one at Bass Pro. I have thought about using it. Trimming or putting a brace on your bow arm would be a must. Warm is good for late season here. I may have to try it. I'll have to hang mine out for a couple days to air out. Can't imagine trying to wash and dry that thing.
Check out the ASAT vanish pro 3d leafy suit. Not a true gillie suit but very effective. I prefer it to a ground blind. Lots of info and reviews on other forums if you google. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I too would take a ground blind before even considering a ghillie. I hunt I in places you can't leave stands/blinds too. Many of those ground blinds take only a minute or two to set up.
