I have it set to record as well. I think all school kids should have to take a military history class and show things like this, band of brothers... yes it's explicit, however they should know they get to be pissed off at the world because someone gave their life to give them that right.
One of my favorite all time movies is Gettysburg... the one made for TV starring Jeff Daniels as the Colonel from Maine. I love the place. The way to do it is to go to the center and see the display, rent a tape and drive to the different locations and they tell you what was happening during the fight. It's a very sobering thing. Another such place is Antetam Batttlefield. I have the TV movie on CDs and watch a couple times a year.
Dave, this is the orignial movie. This a 3 part, 6 total hour, narrative documentary. It explains the strategy of the battle through records and history buffs. It's pretty good.
I DVR'd so many shows and documentaries this past weekend. I haven't gotten to this Gettysburg documentary yet.. probably won't for another week or two. Patton and Midway get my attention first.. especially Patton as I love that dude.. read 2 biographies on him and have seen the movie like 15 times.. but always enjoy it despite its inaccuracies none-the-less. I don't usually enjoy much on Gettysburg typically.. often lean towards the Mississippi area fighting that occurred during this war with Grant in command. He's another one of those SOB's I just can't read enough on. He was a character.
The magnitude of that battle is something. There were something like 6000 plus... in the high 6000's killed in an area that is really really small. Charging blindly across a half mile of open fields into a barrage of the opposition standing shoulder to shoulder with artillery and all that. It must have been sheer madness and suicide.
I watched a show on History last week on Sun Tzu's "art of war", extremely interesting show that talks about the huge mistakes made at the battle of Gettysburg. I'm might actually read the book, that could be my one book to fill this years quota...
This was one of the first things I DVR'd years ago and still watch it occasionally. Really, you can relate some of the lessons to real life / management.
