When up in your stand do you guys or gals hang your bows on a hook or hold your bow the whole time? Heres my big Question if you hang your bow and a shooter is coming in at what point do you take it off the hook, before the buck gets there or wait till he's walking away from you. The reason i ask is because it seems like if I hold my bow while the deer is coming towards me he often busts me up in the tree. I usually hang mine on a hook but sometimes I will set with it on my lap.

I used to let my bow site on my lap but I now have a hook. Soon as I see a deer I grab the bow. I hold it close to my body and I haven't been busted.

I usually hang mine on a hook bc I rarely sit down while in tree stand. I hunt on a lot of field edges so I wait until deer comes within about 80 yards then I'll grab it and as stated above keep it close to body. If get one that comes out where can't see for a distance or suprises me then jus wait until blocked by tree or hope deer puts head down or looks opposite direction. Of course it its gonna be quick encounter you jus gotta kinda go for it ha.
