I have to stay in shape - pretty much all the time (occupational hazard?)...

Due to my knee's wearing out while defending our great nation, I have taken to doing cardio on the elliptical and I do weights prior to that - I am in the gym every day I work - up early every day.

I am pretty interested in the P90X...just the cost is scaring me away. I also have some TRX bands I take with me when I am traveling - good piece of gear.

Kendall, it's about an hour a day....

Only sucky part about it for me: means the alarm has to go off at 5:30 a.m. every day to get the workout in.

treehopper... nope, you do it at your house. That's the beauty of it. www.p90x.com

I'd say to just be in the "proper" health for your age, and what you do for life. As for archery season...besides the walking in and out of the stand sights....it can be a pain to drag a dear out of the woods if your on your own, and can't get access with an ATV. I know that i would have died tugging on my deer this year, if my dad hadn't come and given me a hand. Anyway...that's all i got. Good luck!

I'm in shape all year round. I feel like I've been hit by a truck by the end of hunting season. Could never understand how you can say you don't need to be in shape to hunt. I'd be laying out there somewhere sometime around November if I wasn't in shape.

I'm in the gym 4 days a week for about one hour. I'm currently 207 lbs but would like to get to 195 lbs. I actually lose weight during deer season due to not lifting and sitting on stand all day. After carrying in a climber and pack the added weight gives me a pretty good cardio workout. I would really like to try p90x on my off days to switch up my routine.

    Thats it !!

You dont need a DVD or a meal plan book to stay in shape.

People tend to make working out and changing their diet into a major thing. Dont make a mountain out of a mole-hill.

Stay active. Drink plenty of water. Stimulate your muscles, somehow.

You dont need a full-circuit gym or some wannabe muscle guy telling you what YOU SHOULD do. Hell, I've trained with a rifle and jugs of water !!

If it takes a P90X program to get your fat arse off the couch, than do it. However, if you have motivation already, and just need knowledge- dont waste your money. Some magazines are cheap, and very well researched articles lay within ;)

Some people lead a very sedentary life-style. This is going to make things tougher, for a few reasons.

I grew up slinging bales of hay and straw on a farm, as well as other farm related tasks that are tough on the body. I attribute alot of my strength and build to this.

When I was younger, I was chubby. When I hit my mid teens, I got heavy into working out and learning about the body. I became a personal trainer a few years later and I'm in the medical field. I've combined this knowledge and experience.

This knowledge and the ability to apply it are actually rather simple.

Since then, I've stayed in good shape with muscle definition and size. My work outs are tough, but short and to the point.

What I've learned is that your diet must compliment your work out and lisfestyle(obviously a desk jockey needs fewer caloies per day than an iron-worker), and your work out should compliment your diet(obviously a desk jockey will need to put more time into his work out than an iron worker).

In regards to weight training- STIMULATE. Dont ANNIHILATE....

In regards to diet. Feed the machine, not the taste-buds.

There is not exact science. Get off your butt, dont eat junk !

Stay active. I LOVE mountain biking, motocross, hiking and jogging(although my knees dont seem to hold the same passion for any of these ;))....

I can go on and on. I wont. If you have any questions, PM me, I'd be glad to help.

Good stuff DT ;) Well im going to tighten up the ship a bit to. I have been lifting for the last three years some times all out, other times hit and miss. I do good with the lifting, but at age 44 my metabolism is not even close to what it used to be. Im not lazy by all means (just did a 2 hour hike, scout job today on some new property ) Im going to start back in cardio with my workouts now also. I eat good other than during the season. Now that my season is over its back to good eating and hard lifting.
