Next round begins November 30... anyone wanna join in on all the reindeer fun? Remember... if you don't puke your guts up at the end of the first session, you ain't bringing it!! :D
That is so true, LOL I remember sitting next to the throne praying to puke. I could put 300lbs on the bench. Now I am like a stealth cheetah, I am strong, light and fast. I will never lift weights again.
Doesn't really require being in all that great of shape...at all. I always gain weight during the hunting season. During the summer months I'm riding(motocross), going out to the shore, bars, mountain biking, jogging outside, in the gym very consistent, and I tend to eat a heck of a lot cleaner... A few years back I had gotten pretty heavy into bodybuilding- loved it then, regret it now....But, I learned alot about how to manipulate my body, aside from just becoming HUGE... Generally, when hunting season rolls in, I become so keyed in on the bucks I've deemed as "targets", that everything else gets put off to the side. Everything except motocross, that is.
Sitting in tree stands for hours doesn't seem to really require me to get in shape. Some of my spots are a one mile hike round trip but that shouldn't be a big deal for most people who are in reasonable shape.
I really should get in better shape, but it's not in prep for the season. I really don't have any spots that I have to hike all that far to get to. I imagine within the next two years I will get down to business on getting in shape. The only time that I could see myself getting in shape specifically for hunting would be if I planned some sort of western trip where I would be doing alot of walking.
Running, light weights with higher reps, hitting a heavy bag, breathing exercises. I usually gain weight during hunting season, but this year I have continued to lose weight. Down from 227 in March of this year to 213 right now. I want to lose 8 more pounds. I feel great, and still remain strong at 205.
Kickboxing and jiu jitsu along with wrestling my 6 year old on the tramploline and letting him think he actually beats me to a pulp. It's a blast we even have a plastic championship belt I try and win from him.
I have some significant back issues but 2 years ago I really got into bike riding and Core exercises, Dan Staton really helped to motivate me and push me, he and the book Core Performance have helped me put off my back surgery. I went from 220 plus to less than 180. I hover around 185 now. Loose weight during the rut getting up at 4 and hunting all day takes alot out of me. Get to 190 in winter (cannot bike) go down to 180 in the summer. I did my first 100 mile ride this year and have three planned for next year. If I can do this anyone can, I enjoy my sits more sweat a lot less and I still hurt ( I hurt every day) but not like before.
I stay in decent shape most of the year, but when the season is in, Lifting comes second :D I started back up three weeks ago and am just now getting back into the swing of it. I did P90X last summer and got down to 179 lbs but just wasnt comfortable at that weight. I started going more weight and less reps again, and now in sitting on 194 lbs and feeling very comfortable. Im going to start P90 X again soon but really twist it up somewhat. It just dosent work to well with my work schedule. Im going to do some of the cardio but mix it with my routine of lifting instead. Im looking forward to it Germ, how you do on that very first session of Plyo?? :D Im old, it bought killed me :D
I stay in shape year round. I slack a little during the season, but I still try to lift 3-4 times a week, and at least two days of cardio (down from 3 during offseason). Germ, you'll never lift weights again? Seriously? I need to change something. This isn't to brag, but I'm cut pretty well, but not big at all. I don't gain ANY weight, and I eat a lot, lift fairly heavy/low rep. I don't want to gain much, but a littler more muscle would be nice. Cardio wise, I'm pretty set. Between walking, running, and rowing, I'm ok.
I will be trying to bike this spring and summer and also get back into the weights. My biggest problem is staying away from the excessive beer and my diet.
Yep, don't need to any more, and P90X I am as stong as I need to be. I am getting old, LOL There is some lifting in p90x btw, I am not lifting to get stronger anymore. My goal is to be in shape.
try to burn more calories than go in your mouth.... no magical dvd will ever fix that. p90x & insanity are just motivational tools to get you up and moving.
You really just have to make healthy eating choices and whatever excersize program you choose a part of your daily ritual. It's not something you do for a while to get into shape, it has to become a lifestyle to really work.
for me it's a year round type thing......trying to never really be out of shape in the first place...........some powerlifts , kettlebells & strongman events keep me pretty strong & in ok cardio shape..........course it does help that i can do everything i need to do training wise in my garage ...
