Jim: I hear ya. I'm betting most people don't know how far they can truly swim (front crawl/freestyle). I would've over-estimated, myself. I could go 50yds the 1st day, before I had to stop. I couldn't do that 2X. That was LAST Wed.. I did 12X50's, today. I'm hoping to do 16X50's, Saturday......and start next week doing 20X50's. Once I get there, I'm gonna narrow my rest time......then go to 75's....then 100's.....then ????. I really want to get to 600yds (crawl - non stop) ASAP. I'm not getting tired. I'm getting winded (if that makes sense). Hopefully, it'll all come together, soon. I've been swimming with my head truly down (looking straight down) for only a couple sessions, now. What a difference. I probably need to mix in some lat pull-ups, myself. Keep up the good work!
Press ups going well , Running every 3rd day due to ankle grief and bicep curls are workin a treat . I'm not worrying about my fitness for this Co trip at all .
Ailing....... Not sure what I did, but somehow Jacked my shoulder up Thursday night at work, keeping up the cardio, but I'm pretty much shot for a week or so on the P90X stuff. ARRRGH!!! And when I was doing so well too!!!!
Still chigging along here. 2 weeks until my race, I'm looking forward to it, and at the same time I can't wait until it will be over. My long runs are really boring. Plus i want to shift over to more trail running than road running.
Part of why I like to BIKE, I get a little quicker change of scenery. Maybe that's because when I did run, I ran in the same place too long......(SLOW) 7-7.5 minute miles were about as fast as I was gonna run. At least on a bike, I can cover ground twice as fast or better and the view changes....:D Good Luck with the race!!!
Started today! Been having dreams of arrowing elk the last few nights so i took it as a sign. I haven't done hardly a lick of exercise since I greaduated high school in '07. It's time for a change. Just got back from a 5-mile run and plan on doing this every-other day for a while, until I get back into the swing of things. Have been horn hunting, scouting, or turkey hunting everyday the past week as well.
Less than a week to my race. Did 11 miles yesterday morning & felt great, this week will be some light stuff. Hope y'all are keeping it up, most elk seasons are only 4-4.5 months away!
Absolutely, rybo! Gotta knock out chest, shoulders & tris later today since the alarm went off at 4:40 a.m. for me to go turkey hunting this morning. On that note, I think I've discovered a good addendum to anyone who wants to train for elk hunting: it's called turkey hunting. :D I was laughing silently to myself as I had on my binos strapped on, my turkey vest full of crap over that, and my Double Bull blind on my back over that... with my bow and chair in one hand and three huge decoys in my other hand... hiking 1/4 mile back to get to where I wanted to go.
Ryan....that's great stuff. You got a target time in mind (PM me)? I'm thinking I wanna do one of these next spring. My long run, now, is 7 mi. though!....lol I've got my eyes on an event in DC, in Sept.....2011 (Nation's Triathlon). I plateau-d at 192-194#'s. But my waist has shrunk 2". I'm doing as many as 9 training sessions/wk......but right now I'm having to spend the majority of that, swimming. I still suck at it. My new (OK...it gets good....lol) road bike is for sale. I picked up a "newer" carbon fiber framed model (I know, Ryan....you told me so) Saturday. I haven't put the 1st mi. on it, yet. Hopefully, I'll put 20 on it, Friday.....and 30 more, Saturday. Here she is! Keep up the good work, everyone!
I started April 1st, and am going to have a great season this year. :D Been dieting and running/walking hills.
Thursday evening I'm headed to a few sports stores to see what they have for mountain bikes and such. Whatever I get will have to be able to attach a kids seat to. The extra 30 pounds of my 2.5 year old daughter will do me good anyway. I figure once or twice a week after work the g/f and our daughter will tote along with and then the other times I can go on my own and really give It. Some of you guys are really committed to this keeping In shape stuff. I commend you all on your efforts and rigorous work outs.
Just a thought, Steve... take a look at trailers to pull behind your bike. Seats can be real tippy with that extra weight sticking out and up into the air back behind your center mass. We picked up a nice Schwinn trailer for around $100 or so, and the connection point pivots real nicely, it's got a five-point harness inside, and windows that can be zipped up and down with a mesh screen behind those in case it's raining or you want to let more air into the trailer for the little one... You'll still get a good-enough workout lugging the trailer along too... even though I think it's exponentially better than the extra seat thingy.
Yes, make the switch to trail running. I hate long, plodding road runs. Trails make the long runs so much more enjoyable. What distance race are you training for?
Half marathon. The rough "guide" I was following had a long run 1/week. I figured since I was running a road race, I didn't want to spend too much time on trails so my legs would be used to the pavement.
70 percent of my riding will be on gravel roads. We don't have many black top roads around here. Wouldn't the dust and such be a pain for my daughter In this cart? I have no Idea what this cart looks like so maybe I'm thinking way to much Into this.
That's possible, Steve... This is what it looks like: That one is off the Toys 'R Us website for $97.
Biggest plus is strapping your youngun in the back and throwing some of his favorite toys in there with him... keeps 'em occupied for a lot longer. :D
