just rattled in a beautiful buck on my 5 acre property, except I couldn't get him to come closer to me...he was in the neighbours (who wont let me shoot on his side), how do I get him to come all the way into my property?

    Vancouver island, BC

Lcan you move closer to the direction he came from without crossing into the neighbour's property. As thick as the island is, there is not much else you can. Try to use the terrain against him if you can so he is forced to come closer to see wha tos making the noise.

Might be worth a shot to use a buck decoy. Sometimes mature bucks will come to the horns to investigate but if they can't get a visual of another deer they are hesitant.

I had a similar situation last night except I was "grunting". I got him to 68 yards & that was it. I thought it was a little early for a decoy so I left it in the truck. IMHO, a mature buck is only gonna come so far without actually "seeing" what is making the rattle/grunt.

This is probably true a lot of the time, but not always. One time in Alberta, which is the only place I've ever tried rattling, I had one of the biggest bucks I've ever seen while hunting come to within 17yrds (ranged after he left) of my stand location. The problem was that he came in directly straight to me, which left me unable to draw on him without spooking him. After he didn't see "the fight" he turned and walked away from me on an angle that offered no ethical shot. I'll never forget that encounter.
