So how do you guys do it? I've tried dirt scented bug spray, but it still smelled like bug spray and it didn't work. I've seen these new thermal heater things but I hear those smell too. What are some of your methods of getting rid of the pesky bugs in the early season...or do you just deal with it?

I've heard it leaves a scent that the deer can pick up. Is that true?

They make earth scented pads for the Thermacell now. As far as I know I have never had a deer spook from my thermacell and if they did get down wind they are more likely to spook from my scent

Thermacell yes there is a scent but I've never seen a deer react negative to it.

I've used a thermacell religiously in the early season to keep skeeters away. I have never been winded and they keep those suckers from biting me through my facemask.

Soak your outer layer in permethrin (sawyers) and carry a thermacell (which uses an equivalent to permethrin) and you'll be bug free all the time. Search for Permethrin and Allethrin here and you'll see all you need to know about the two chemicals.

Thermacell and bug suit for getting to the stand. Wrap a blind around the tree stand set the thermacell on the bottom. All mosquitoes will be gone in about 10 minutes.
