What are options for a good, quiet bow (gear) hoist for a split limb bow? Tired of the rope due to always tangling on me. Thanks Sent from my SM-N960U using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
Fwiw-I use paracord, but seldom have a tangle unless there is a lot of wind or brush near the tree. The two ways I found to keep it from tangling are either coil the cord or wrap it in a compact way (like around my pinky and thumb). I have tried to haul everything into the tree in one go, but it's a bit of a show as I use a hang on stand and don't leave it out on public land.
Get a bow sling and sling on your back I have tried that. It was ok I think it was just as easy to use 550 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Before I started climbing with my bow in a holder I always had one of these clipped to my pack. I think someone makes smaller ones, but this one will lift a lot of weight. I never cared for the manual wind up versions. They can tangle too.
I found a Muddy version of the Doyle’s gear hoist. Still kind of bulky but I’m going to give it a try this year. Comes up on Camofire pretty often for $14 or so. Actually got 2 so I can pull up my bag and then the bow will be connected to the bag and once I’m up and settled, I’ll be able to pull the bow up last. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Yeah, a friend told me to try a Doyle. Just wanted to hear of other ones out there. Sent from my SM-N960U using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
I've been using the same Doyles for over 10 years now and has not skipped a beat. I keep it in my pack and just pull the cord thru a small opening in the zipper. Only 1 time I lowered my bow and it came undone when the bow got to the ground, it shot back up at me! Heard of people using the retractable dog leash also. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
I use mainly a lone wolf sit and climb climber. I do on occasion use a run and gun setup. Hawk mod. Helium sticks and a old sand mold lone wolf stand. Sent from my SM-N960U using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
I hunt out of Summit Vipers and I use a Third Hand Bow Holder attached to them. It lets me climb with the bow on the stand so I don’t need a pull up rope. I also don’t need a bow hanger because I just flip the bow over and it’s right by my hand.
I also have a third hand bow holder on my lone wolf. Never thought of climbing with it in the holder. Hell I have to see if the v3 even fits into it now thinking about it. Lol Sent from my SM-N960U using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
I have a bow rope in a little holder that resembles the handle of a kite you wind the rope around that my wife got me, so I have no choice but to use it. I have never in my life seen a rope with special attributes like this one. It ties knots in itself in the dark, will zig zag and tangle up in a whole briar bush at the base of a tree while I’m waiting for day light. Sometimes, when it cracks daylight, I can’t wait to look down and see how tangled and knotted up it got this time! Before I was gifted this magic rope, I used paracord. I’d have a spare 30’ or so in my pack, but for my pre hung stands, I’d tie a piece to a limb or bow hook and leave it.
So what is the major difference between the doyle rope gear hoist and the flat strap one? They appear to be the same weight rating and size. Sent from my SM-N960U using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
honestly, Hawk makes an anti tangle rope that was awesome, it just had twist wires at the end that held up to 40 lbs...
Ordered the hawk to try it out. Ill get it tomorrow. Hopefully it will be good. Thanks everyone. Sent from my SM-N960U using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
I’ve always wondered if a retractable dog leash would work but now I see they make them just for hunting! Thanks! Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
