    Hi:
I am a deer hunting freak, taking 5 last year. I just bought my first bow in 30years. A Bow Tech Tribute used from my Barber / Pawn Broker. It is awesome! When tuned it shoots nothing but dots. I want to really get into bow hunting and tuning this year. What things should I pick up to be able restring, paper tune, and do general maintenance. I am practically interested in which bow press I should buy. I want to be able to do a total take down not just, restring my bow. I also want to know where I should go for strings and cables.

I picked up a used linear bow press (EZ press style) in the AT classifieds that's been great. I got a used string jig in there too for doing my own strings and cables. Roll your own. I'd forget about the paper tuning frame. Once you get into it and get good at it you'll realize that paper tuning is a waste of time, unless you don't have a place to shoot beyond 20 yards and even then, there are better ways to go about tuning.

    Aren't we ambitious? LOL.

I good quality press is a must. The linear style press's like the EZ press are excellent as well as the Xpress from Sureloc and the Apple presses. Just make sure it will press parallel limb bows and you are set.

    Some other things you'll want.

    1. A vice to hold your bow while you work on it.
    2. String level and arrow level to set your nock point.
    3. Bow scale to set and check draw weight.
    4. A paper tuning jig if you want or like to paper tune.
    5. Nock pliers if you are using the brass nock sets
    6. Serving thread to tie in your peep, create nock sets, tie in drop aways.
    7. Serving tool if you need to repair or replace center serving.
    8. String loop material to make your D loops on your string or to replace drop away cords.
    9. Arrow building supplies. Fletching jig, fletchings, glues, etc.
    9. An internet connection to ask questions on here!

    That should get ya started.

As for string makers. Lots of great companies out there. I personally use Vaportrail strings and have never had an issue with them.
