G'day fellas. I just joined your site at the recommendation of one of your members and thought i should introduce myself.

Im Ben from Alice Springs in central Australia. I love my bowhunting, especially for big game.

And as many of you probably understand sometimes its hard focus at work - when id rather be out hunting - so you will probably see me on here a fair bit! I figure if i cant be out there hunting at least i can check out what everyone else who understands the bowhunting bug is getting up to.

Well great to be here and im looking forward to hearing all about what bowhunting is like in the US and maybe sharing a bit of what we get up to over here as well.
    cheers
    benno

Just don't mention camels and you will be good.

So long as you wear knee high boots to wade through the bs, you will fit in just fine.

heh mate I was out all weekend chasing camels! Saw about 200 but only got a single shot at one and dropped it.

thanks for the welcome fellas, is it ok to post up stories/pics that have been up on another forum ? or does it have to be new stuff?

Hello and Welcome Benno, sounds like you have your priorities straight! Good to have you here. Just curious what kind of big game you hunt there in Australia?

Glad to be here fellas. It helps to get me thru the day =)

My specialty is camels - cause im out in the desert and there are a LOT of em here. I'll put up the post with a few pics

We also hunt wild horses, donkeys, water buffalo, wild bulls, Red deer and there is all the usual stuff - smaller deer, pigs, goats rabbits, foxes etc

Of everything Id have to say buffalo is my favourite, nothing like putting down an animal that can weight up to 2500lbs with an arrow!

Welcome Benno! Cant' wait to see some of the pics. What do non-resident licenses cost down there? Here, every state has it's own regs & prices.

Non resident license? Id never heard of it till i came on this site - we dont have them. You only pay for hunting here if you go on a safari type hunt with an outfitter/guide. Then your paying for access to quality hunting grounds and an experienced guide. Otherwise you can pretty much hunt anything that is feral at any time of the year for free. You just need access to private property - easy if your a farmers son =)

what do safari's run down there? say compared to africa. A co-worker went to africa to long bow hunt and that cost hime about 10K a few yrs ago. what else is considered feral? the only thing here in my state that is feral is hogs. those you can shoot as much as you like. and like U said earlier, have to have access to private land.

i reckon you would get a really good safari for about $7k-$8kUS depending on what you shoot - same as Africa really. For that sort of money you would expect a trophy buffalo bull, at least 2 buffalo cows, unlimited feral pigs, brumbies if they are about (usually no extra charge) and maybe a scrub bull (wild cattle - $400 each). You would see reasonable numbers of game with a lot of the pigs on baits. For the other animals its generally spot and stalk so you want to be fit - its hot up here in the tropics and you walk a long way.
The river fishing is great as well - thats a bonus at most of the hunting camps
