Might I add that the wifes Jeep compass gets 27-28 MPG and I bought a honda accord a year or 2 ago. I sold my truck and that has been the hunting rig. I deer hunt 2 miles from my uncles, so if i kill a deer he will meet me at the property, and the processor is in between his house and the property. Turkeys fit right in the trunk.
It won't affect my hunting but my truck isn't moving until hunting season except on rare occasions. Sadly I stuff myself into a little Chevy hhr every morning so that I have cash to put in the tank come fall
It's going to affect my hunting quite a bit, my main hunting land is 107 miles one way from where I live, so unless I buy an Aveo or something similar I'll only be able to make it there a few times next fall.
It's going to be tuff i wont lie, I am going to hunt my ground at the house here alot more, although there are only a few deer, My 4x4 v8 tahoe gets about 10 miles to the gallon and is also my tow vehicle for my boat it's paid for but i am going to have to cut back on the boating to make ends meet. The boat only gets about 2 miles a gallon so guess it will sit for most of the year also. Going to change the boat over to e-85 may help some. My family goal is to eliminate most or all dept in ten years,we have got it down to are home payments,But if and when i buy a new hunting vehicle it will be flex fuel and a v-6 for sure. good luck guys.
Guess the only change I can think of is maybe staying in the woods more between my trips home to save on fuel LOL.. Actually the high cost of fuel will without a doubt have some impact on some and minimal on others...for me my primary hunting spot of 300 acres is 7 miles one way from my house...
My public land spot is 5min from my front door. Dads place 4 to 5 day hunt 90miles. I take a trout fishing trip in early oct. 150 miles This year to maximize my time all throw a climber in the trunk and make it a combo trip. 7000 aceres of public land around the trout streams. I plan to do some scouting and a little turkeu/trout trip next week
I will just make the wife cut back on her driving so I don't have to. Seriously it will hurt more for summer scouting on weekends I don't work. I probably will have to back off a little on weekends and scout more after work during the week. When I work I can always scout on the way home since a lot of my areas are inbetween work and home or not too far from work. It will not effect hunting. Tim
I bought a ford taurus 3 years ago when prices reached $4/gal. I still have my Tahoe, or as I like to call her, Todds-hoe. They get about the same miles out of a tank, but the tahoe takes 10 more gallons to fill up. The way I figure it, I have recently broke even on the taurus with the money I save on gas. An added bonus is I don't put as many miles on my Tahoe. I still use the Tahoe on some hunting trips and towing. A couple weeks ago I put on 2200 miles going out to Kansas. I drove the taurus. Six fill-ups means I saved over $200 in gas on that trip alone. I only get 26-27 mpg....imagine those people driving hondas getting 30+ mpg...they must be saving tons. Cars are not as much fun to drive, but they do save money.
