We tried to get our minds off the loss of our dog by going out and shooting some carp.

So, now we have carp in the garden to nourish the plants. ....and I cried looking at all the paw prints in the dirt. I miss my doggie. :(

    Thanks Tony.

We used the auger when we had lots of carp to plant but we just used shovels for these. I tried to dig a hole where the tractor is scraping up dirt in that photo..... and found there is a cement pad under there. !!!!

Must have been the floor for some sort of livestock shed. Lots of composted manure in that spot.

Pics of when we used the auger.

We put the tomatoes 10 feet apart.

They still end up growing together.

Your tomato plants continue to blow me away... is it due to the carp? How deep do put the carp?

That was pretty good soil back in Illinois but you could definitely see a difference in size and productivity in the plants put over the carp. Same with the squash and eggplants. Corn of course, too.

Depth varies but we try to get the fish at least 4" below the young plant and no more than 8". The fish decompose rapidly so by time the roots make it to the fish, it has mostly turned into absorbable nutrients. And no, the tomatoes don't taste like carp.

Christine, you never had a problem with animals digging them up?

Got a smaller one with raspberries and a few things too. This one will look like something once finished planting and see how things grow. Hopefully it works out more as a garden than food plot this year. Last year it turned out a little of each

What do you do to control the weeds throughout the summer? Round up?

Used round up and tilled a week ago and sprayed after last fall too. Pick what I can. Spot spraying if needed, but mainly try and pick as they come. This garden we just broke ground for last summer so still kinda getting things going. Did enough to play with last year, this year should be productive.

I should get out an get a few pictures. I built a cucumber/zucchini trellis last weekend, got all of the plants in, strawberry's are booming, and I built a few makeshift bird screens for over our blueberry bushes last night.

Black cherry tomato started from seed by a buddy. Already about 4 ft tall.

Purple Cherokee tomato I started from seed.

A row of broccoli. Pic is a bit old. I'm getting a few heads devolving.

Checked on my garden today and found only my corn standing, something got into the garden and ate pretty much the rest. Traps set, Cam on and pellet gun loaded!

Hopefully will get some pictures after I re-seed
