Oh bought more mesh. (2) 10 x33x ft lengths for 26. 00 in all. Will use that to cover seed beds until they germinate from now on. Then switch them to strawberries, and blk.berries.
I reseeded 4 rows of corn last night, have another 4 to do today. Then covered it all with the new mesh. Dusted all brassica for worms and slugs. The eggplant for flea beetles and ants with DE. Looks like out of all the sqush seed planted, 2 zucchini msde it. All seed starts are prepared. I did my first freezer harvest of the Ocha and Iwill have collards ,kale and broccoli in the next week..
Man watering WHAT A CHORE!!!!! I put down 15 gals. actually gallon jugs and no where near finished. I'm using fertilizer in each. Retilled the pumpkin area raked and de-rocked. Then reinstalled a tomato fence planting more tomatoes. Up to 106 in the ground now. Most of the experimental ones. Mostly plum/ sauce tomatoes are developing. They may be a bit less disease resistant. Hey with as many as I have so be it, I'll still get a great harvest. Well for all the seed I have planted, 3 winter and 3 zucchini up. Many more starts planted. Need more beans, carrots chard ect..we'll see.. Not bad concidering granddog sitting and sick as a dog! Broken glass throat, crackling ears sneezing, coughing, headache.
Gotta get out there early today , it's going to be a scorcher and I'm still watering. 50 gals and still a 1/3 to go..
No need to water here have to pick the days to give the tomatoes fertilizer between rainy days, luckily we have been getting moderate rain no hail or downed trees.
Geezz where's my brain? Heat index 105° and I decide to go load up 6 logs into Gator by hand and set them in place in garden. Eight 6" diameter logs three 8ft. , two 6'10" and one 7'. One raised bed finished and another started Picked first head of broccoli and wild raspberry. Made strawberry/rhubarb sauce for icecream. Will be cutting scapes tomorrow. Watermelon seed has sprouted as well as second cuke planting. Looks like cluster slicers are developing on some experimental tomatoes . Then a strange looking oblong pointy tomato. Some sort of plum? Think I figured out how to beat the seed stealers...I gave my nasty smelling oregano a hair cut and covered my seed rows. Beat their noses
I finally introducing new hens to their mom and Dads. Will do this for a couple of weeks before letting them in the coupe they are 11 wks old now. That's about 7 wks. From laying..
88 feels like 104. Yes, yesit certainly does. When I finally finished weeding the melon patch I looked like I'd taken a fulled clothed dip inthe neighbors pond.. enough of that for the day! Hhmmmm.... Im now relaxing a bit over garden issues...save finding the robins trying to nip off my corn...so much for the line and tin pans strung over it..
Another 5 hours weeding, trimming leaves and setting up planting areas for beets more lettuce and a planting of fall cauliflower. Thundering out so I'm in switching out summer winter clothes and ironing.
Crazy weather, low 90's high 80's warm nights. Flick switch high 65 and low 42. Now the weather station states 67 and 45, though we are always at least 3 degrees cooler. Looking forward to fewer bugs and sweat
So didn't get to the weed DRing, worked the garden. Went from 12 to 9 rows of corn. I transplanted the worst 3 rows( first 3) into the bare spots of the next 5 rows I had just 4 rows that seed wasn't stolen. Thinned then made another row of cukes. I then planted last 4 tomato plants and did a count. I have 125 tomatoes I planted . Then I went and rough counted the ones I'm allowing to just grow around the garden. That is a 30 or so count. I'm fetting a wide variety of tomaties a lot of the cherokee cherry. Other cherry, maybe some grape, patio clusters, slicers, romano paste. Now the paste are c9ming out in some realy stange shapes. Some are ahaped like cigars just shorter.
Man Oh man! Rained all day yesterday then a crazy rip roaring storm last night. Lightening over house for 30 mins. Window rattling booms and cracks with "day light" in bed room. Close to hitting baseent stuff. Cool and clear out now. Hope garden faired well
Hey guys how are your gardens coming along? Whats producing? I'm getting greens and broccoli, asparagus is still coming along . Lots of tomato, peppers but not ripe yet. Boxed ted tater were harvested and GREAT! Garlic scapes were tasty. Will have yellow squash in a day or two. Eggplants are just getting flowers. My cukes are growing well and should start next week
Due to weather blight is hitting a few tomatoes hard. I'm picking off effected leaves but more than one type is here. Some flowers and fruit effected. Been spraying a preventative and fungi killer. Home made solution non chemical, persay. I always defoliate tomato ,pepper and eggplant anyways. I leave just enough for photosynthesis and sun scald. Wave 2....aphids ,DE means unhappy aphids and ants
Apparently sad start to garden when 16 baby bunnies were ended wasn't too bad. I dfkve over yesterdayand 5 bunnies didnt e en bother running away until I stopped and got out. Thankfully my low second layer of fencing(chicken wire/ hardware cloth) has sorked well to proteck my plants.
