About 8 or 9 years ago 3 bucks came down out of the woods at about 2:00 PM in late September directly into our tomato garden on the dead run. They were scarfing tomatos and plants alike. I wasn't into bowhunting at the time and by the time I got to my rifle one of our dogs came around the corner and scared them off. These were nice blacktail bucks we nicknamed "The 3 Caballeros". I see deer in my apple orchard every day eating the limbs and apples.
Nope, but I have watched them eat green beans, peas, lettuce, cabbage, sunflowers, corn, and even saw them dig up a carrot out of our garden.
Nope, ya got me there Bob!! Actually I've never seen a deer In my garden period, sure would like to though.
OK well glad to hear it..My wife and I were talking, somethings getting the tomatos just as they ripen. I suspect a groundhog. But due to a few deer tracks in the garden she says deer. I said I've never heard of deer eating the actual tomatos.
Why would a deer not eat a Tomato? They are tasty. I believe Atlasman has seen deer eat tomato's, I remember him posting about throwing some to the deer.
YES...deer eat tomatoes. My parents own a Hydroponic Tomatoe farm (greenhouse). Some of the tomatoes which do not meet certain standards are thrown out as waste (piled up outside). Deer go to this pile all the time ussually at night and eat the tomatoes. And before anyone asks...I do not hunt the tomatoe pile or anywhere near it.
never a tomato, no... I grow sunflowers, sweet corn, cucumbers, peppers, tomatoes, etc... Never once have the deer touched a tomato. A lot of the other veggies are protected by deer netting, but I don't have to worry about the tomatoes. Also, Ohio County, Indiana (SE Indy) has a VERY high deer population. But also a lot of agriculture.
I know Big John shoots tomatoes. Maybe he has some experience with deer and tomatoes. Big John? Big John, Bueller? Bueller?
My daughter just told me last week she watched two does come in and eat her tomatos and then the plant!!They eat it all...Walt
