As am I- going to change the contrast settings on my screen to see if I can pick out more detail. I know they were going for a fog of war feel, but some scenes were so dark I couldn't see anything but blurry shapes moving around

I wonder if the budget concerns also played a part in it, I don't know that trying to enhance with contrast/brightness settings will help or not. If they intentionally tried to save money by cheating details with darkness not much will help.

If it is some sort of editing situation, you'd think they could improve it when the Blu Rays come out.

Just me, I think the darkness was intense and intentional on their part.

When the Dothraki charged with their flaming swords and they showed it from a distance, then the flames being snuffed out. I was waiting for it to go dark, then a rash of blue flames ignite and start charging back.

Didn't happen though, but thought it would be cool

agreed, I believe it was likely intentional- all that CGI in daylight would be hot garbage (think every Transformer movie since...ever.)
Going to see if the contrast can help a little bit though.

Absolutely insane, and no, your tv setting will not help. I stopped the DVR to figure out how to see anything that was happening; does not help. I didn't delete it, I am going to watch it again.
As for whats next, how can they attack Cersei when damn near every army was wiped out? I don't see how they can turn and attack kings landing, it is going to have to be some sneaky stuff.

Dark or not, there were a lot of scenes that were just damned beautiful. That one scene with Melisandre's eyes reflecting flames...damn she was just breathtakingly gorgeous. Carice van Houten is hot anyway but wow I loved that shot.

The darkness was a stylistic choice I believe to make it hard to see and keep the audience more on edge and nervous as well as giving the show more of a horror movie feel. I thought it was pretty effective, they did the same thing in the Godzilla 2014 movie and people had the same complaints. I agree it was not necessary and I too would have liked to have been able to see details better. I doubt budget had much to do with it because they have shot many battles in full light before like Hardhome.

I still wish they had not changed actors for the Knight King, the first iteration was amazingly more creepy. I think they wanted a little more buff actor but I think that's silly if that's the reason. The Knight King was so powerful he didn't need to be more buff. I still think the first guy made an amazing looking Knight King.

Bonus info, the W Walker John killed in the Hardhome episode was actually the actor that ended up playing the Knight King we just watched Arya kill.

As far as attacking Kings Landing after they lost troops....Dany doesn't seem concerned from the 8-4 peek. She still has two dragons and a good number of her unsullied army. I wonder if she'll deal with the Iron Bank and hire re-enforcement from Bravos. Daario and the Second Sons were left in Meereen to keep the peace while a provisional government transferred power to the people. I wonder if they will show up to help Dany, possibly they joined The Golden Company and are secretly stowed away within the ranks as a time bomb to go off at the right time behind enemy lines. That'd be a cool twist.

Based on the books, there are roughly 45,000 troops in the Vale, and roughly 40,000 in Dorne. Both hate the Lannisters and may join Dani. Neither fought in any of the major wars to date, so they should still have full numbers. Add in two dragons, and literally EVERYONE else in westeros will back Jon Snow, knowing he and Dani defeated the white walkers and saved the world, and that he is the true heir to the throne. Cersi is going to get trucked hard.

    *In the Throne room*

Jamie: Cersei, dont be foolish. The north has won, the war is over. surrender and save our child.
Cersei: Maybe if you had stood by your family, the north would not have won.
Jamie: What do you want me to do? the army of the dead was marching south.
    *Pause*
    Cersei: Burn them all
*Flash back and shock hits Jamie's face*
    Jamie: *Draws sword*

Not a ton of action in this last episode, but definitely a turning point as we head into the end of this saga. Cracks are beginning to form in the John/Dani alliance, another dragon went down, and as always Cersei seems to have a plan for everything. It will be interesting to see what happens when Jamie gets back to King's Landing.

I'm not a fan of how sped up and compressed things are. It's too bad the show could not continue in it's previous format so we could get more details, ie, minutes after the battle of winterfell, the characters learning it was Arya who killed the night king. The direction of the show and end game is reminding me of the love story in Star Wars 3, between Anakin and Padame. I think Dany will end up dying seeing as she is becomming the mad queen, like Anakin turning to the darkside. Maybe by the hands of John?

The preview of episode 5, What was Euron looking up to in the sky? At this point I don't think he would be afraid of ONE dragon.

I'd say he was looking at Superman but at this point I'm not sure the show writers are that creative.

How they ran out of money can only be answered by the richest of the producers.

So much story could have been carried out for so much longer.

One of the shortest episodes next week to end the series.

As far as King's Landing goes...I have to admit, I've wanted to see that happen to that chit hole ever since Ned Stark lost his head. That place was about like Sodom and Gomorra rolled into one. I'm half a mind to agree that Danny should have done that from the start rather than listening to the advice to favor a more conservative approach. She'd probably still have all three dragons and more of her soul left intact. Knight's King would have still been confined north of the wall as well. I doubt the dead would have ever made it past the wall without gaining the dragon.
    Hindsight I guess...

Or will Arya try to kill Dany and leave John to choose where his loyalties are.

I stand by my statement that I wish they would have ended it after the battle of Winterfell. Everything has been downhill since then.

Agree all this should have happened pre the battle of winterfell. The night king should have been the end.
