I always seem to gain a pound or two, while at deer camp i try to change my.. ahem.... schedule, so i don't have any situations in the stand, so i think i eat less, but the facts don't support that There is always more food than needed and lots of snacking, and i always seem to leave camp a touch heavier than i got there
I've always gained weight during season from all the food on the road and beers at the bar. With that said, I'm down about 35lbs right now since late May and I'm planning to keep going till roughly end of year and then I'll focus on maintaining it. It's definitely going to be hard to eat clean during season this year but the good news is I won't be traveling much so that will help a lot.
It's pretty normal for me to gain several lbs during season. I use the off season to prepare for being the best me I can possibly be during hunting season, which means eating clean, monitoring macros, lifting everyday, and running 10 miles a week. All that goes to the wayside from October 1st until after Christmas. Between trying to manage my time with family, work, and hunting, it get hard to work on "Me". Not to mention after an all day sit in harsh conditions, all I want is a double quarter pounder with fries and a Coke super sized!
Im down 22 pounds since this past winter, i had a new job and had to do a physical for some sup life insurance, they told me what i weighed and i was like damn... Its hard to eat good and after the first 7 pounds it was pretty hard to drop weight, and i know ill stuff myself all deer camp long
I'm with RJ in that I typically pack on a few pounds during hunting season - lots of driving, eating fast food, sitting in a stand and living on sugary foods and energy drinks. Although like RJ I've really changed the way I eat and the amount of physical activity I do on a weekly basis and have managed to drop a few pounds. I fully intend on eating healthier during hunting season with the hopes of continuing to lose weight instead of gaining it back.
I usually work out from Spring until Fall Hunting. Lost 20 pounds this summer. The level depends on if I'm going west Elk hunting or not. Stop working out during season. Usually lose a few pounds during hunting season. I don't bring a lot of food on all day sits. Almost like fasting. After hunting season....gain several pounds until Spring. Seems to be the cycle for me. Need to work out all year and that would help. Maybe this year. Haha.
I always gain weight. You end up sitting down for 8+ hours a day, get back to camp and it's tons grilled food, beer, and whiskey
I always gain few pounds in the fall and winter. Has lot more to do with being laid off when weather turns bad from construction job than deer camp tho. Luckily it doesn't take long to slim back down when spring amd work rolls around ha. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
You CAN lose or at least maintain your weight during the season. All it takes is planning. I plan all my away from home meals and start buying accordingly before the season. I know that deer camp can be a food fest but a little planning now can save you from trying to undo all the bad later on. Blessings........Pastorjim
Same here. I eat the same or a bit less than I normally do during the off season. But I walk and climb more than normal during the season. Owning a bar and grill that serves excellent food did take me a while to adjust my eating habits.
When I used to hunt more hours I used to lose weight just from sitting in a tree and being cold. The body burns a ton of calories trying to keep warm. If you are gaining weight during hunting season you are not hunting hard enough.
I'm like Sota on this one, hunting behind my house, so my supper is a little later, but that's all. But, I do a lot of meat grilling during bow season...Tender loins for breakfast! Venison medallions & biscuits for lunch in the tree & smokey chili for supper after hunting all day...I'm getting fatter just thinking about it! Oh I can't wait
I guess it would make sense that there is a difference from guys who are essentially hunting their back yard compared to those that go stay in "camp" I hunt a couple hours from home and we stay in a little cabin and have a group of guys were friends with that do the same, their cabin is about 5 miles from ours. So there is a lot of hunting stories told over way too much food. My snacks seems to always be junk, snickers is my go to stand snack with maybe an apple
I gain weight and I look forward to gaining tbh. To me the cold beer, fried foods, large portions and good friends is what makes deer camp what it is. I'll trade being 5 pounds heavier for a good couple weekends with some awesome food, great friends, and long lasting memories any day of the week. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
