Got this from a friend. We are both Hunter Education instructors so this was a big concern for us. We teach a lot of hunter safety scenarios and hope things like this never happen. https://newschannel9.com/news/natio...r-mistaken-for-deer-was-shot-killed-by-friend
I used to teach hunters ed as well. These are sad tragedies but make for great teaching aids. We had a local doctor, best friends dad and the man that delivered me into the world, accidentally shot and killed one turkey season. It was early morning right at first light. So in my classes I used a shadow screen with a light behind the figure to project it onto the screen. I would set a turkey decoy up first and the kids would all scream "turkey!" Then i would shut the light off, grab my 870 and pose like I was creeping through the woods, slightly bent over, face mask kinda hanging down and the butt of the shotgun kinda trailing behind me and turn the light back on. Basically it made the outline of a big tom, they'd all yell turkey and we would raise the screen.. hopefully I scared enough of them to make sure of a shot before taking it. Hate to see articles like this.
