My question is, how sharp can you get a Montec broadhead? I know they are designed to be tough more than sharp given the thick bevel on the blades but I cannot seem to get them sharp at all!! I use a diamond stone and know how to sharpen a BH but they won’t sharpen. I can put my thumb on the blade and run it down the blade even with a little pressure and they won’t cut. I have read on another forum you cannot get them razor sharp but they are not even practically sharp. Anyone got any tips? if not its back to Grim Reapers for me.
i use a slate turkey call with some light honing oil and as long as they arent all nicked and chewed up i can get a pretty mean edge back on em in little to no time.
doesn't the angle of the edge have to do with being able to run your finger down and it not feel sharp? my hellrazors are the same way but last years buck didn't make it forty yards - a ton of blood. have you done any paper or rubber band testing to confirm that they are dull?
No I have not done any testing of them apart from feeling the edge for sharpness (same as one may do with a knife). It was more so that I have heard of guys saying they can shave their arm hair with them their so sharp, yet no matter how I sharpen them I can not get them even feeling sharp. I will do a rubber band test on them all tomorrow. I feel the edge on my grim reapers and they feel sharp enough to not want my fingers anywhere near the blade so I guess I have been expecting to try for a simulare edge on the motecs to no avale
I would suggest a new sharpening stone maybe. I have both the regular Montecs and the CS version, I sharpen both on the same stone and get them to a clean sharp edge. Dave
