Went out hunting last weekend again. We kayaked in the area and set up camp. It didn't take long to spot some goats, but they were on they're way up the mountain side. Didn't take a shot the first day, but ended with a nice sunset overlooking the beach with a bottle of Early Times. Second day my buddy shot one within 45 minutes of leaving camp, so I had to try a little harder to get one before we left. I stalked a group for about 45 minutes from the creek, through the bush, up the mountain. As I was watching the group of 8, a small female (the best meat) popped out about 10 yards away and didn't even notice me. I drew the bow back, still undetected got her in my sites, shot and felt great before the arrow even left the bow. Easy dinner, right? Wrong. I have terrible vision in my right eye. The black goat that I thought I was aiming at was actually a black rock. The goat was about 3 feet to the right of the rock! The arrow busted, blew the tip out, and needless to say, the goat bolted. My instant of joy shattered really fast, but after a minute I couldn't help but laugh at how ridiculous the situation was. One more instance of why I should have worn glasses as a kid.
My Dad and I were in the stand together. This was my first time with the bow. I had practiced like mad from january till then with my bow and was really good out to 35 yds. One hour into it, two young doe walk in from behind just grazing. I drew the bow and took aim and shot under the larger one. They both jumped and took about 5 quick steps. Dad said use your 25 yd pin. I did have enough time to load another arrow because they didnt run far and didnt see us. Took aim agian but somewhere in the ten seconds between dads advice and me drawing, I forgot and shot under again. How humiliating to shoot and miss twice! Especially with a witness there. He still laughs at it. "Shoot 2" groups at 35 yds and cant hit a deer. You dont work for PETA do you?" I am sure Ill never hear the end of it
