Since turkey season is only a few days away I thought ya'll might enjoy this. It actually took place on the opening day of bow season this year. I decided to hunt a section of our farm that I had never hunted before, it was a small field to begin with then after we quit tillin it it started to just grow up , very thick and ugly. As I was doin my preseason scoutin this year I decided to check it out and to my surprise it had turned into a small wooded area , still thick but easy enough to slip through. So, I set me up a ladder stand and waited for opening mornin'. On that mornin' I got to this new growth of woods and quietly made my way to my stand. I was very glad I had made it in without spookin any deer, or anything else for that fact. I grabbed a hold of the ladder and made it up 2 steps and I swear to you it sounded like a freakin boeing 727 was crashin through the top of the trees. There must have been atleast 10 birds that were roosted in every tree around and in the tree my stand was in. After I finally decided they weren't comin after me, I proceeded to get in my stand and get still. You would think that was the end of the story................WRONG! For 30 minutes after daylight I watched them big clumsy birds fly from one tree to the next , they are not graceful critters flying, look like someone was throwing 5 gallon buckets full of feathers through the trees. End of story.
Yes, they sure can make alot of noise at the wrong time! Turkeys are sure fun to hunt in the Spring, partly because a guy can get back at them for ruining a few deer hunts from the prior Fall! Thanks for sharing!
That is a good story. That would have scared the crap out of me! The good thing is now you know they like that spot and hopefully they'll be back come opening morning in a couple of weeks. The last few weeks of the season back in Janurary, I had birds all around me all the time. I think it's pretty exciting especially if there's not much else going on in the woods.
