I was in desperate need of papering tuning my bow as I could visibly tell I was getting some errant arrow flight after messing with my sight, rest, etc. A few days ago I took off to the hardware store in search of some materials. I ended up building your standard PVC pipe paper tuning rack. Didn't take long to figure out I had purchased a little too much material.

Lucky for me, I came across plans for a nice outdoor bow holder made out of PVC.

I decided to build it instead of burning gas to return the extra elbows, t-fittings, and pipe.

Here are the finished projects; you can see the tuning rack in the background. I think I am going to end up painting the bow holder to match the arrow bucket shown in the picture.

And finally, what would a project be without your little helper.

At this point, I think we both had sniffed a little too much PVC glue and needed a break.

Two things I took away from this project were:

    1. Paper tuning may not be the final step in tuning, but a BIG part of tuning I think people overlook is your form and torque. I thought I had a pretty good handle on not torquing my bow. Well, I found out REAALLLL quick I indeed had a handle, it was a handle on gripping my bow more than I expected.

    2. PVC is fun and is almost as practical as duct tape. :d :deer:

    Have a good weekend folks!

Potato gun....never even gave it thought! Man I miss shooting potato guns.

I could even do a little tuning in my basement.....shoot a few potatoes through the paper tuning rack to get the perfectly spined potatoes. :d

Looks great. Did you get those plans off of AT? I saw some on there, and thought about tryin' it out.

    Indeed.

I love the Do-It Yourself forum over there. A lot of neat stuff floating around that forum.

Bols, here's another idea for pvc. A guy I know made a target holder that looks kinda like your bow holder. Only his was higher to hang a target underneath it. It worked pretty slick. On the cross pipe he had two hooks to hand the bag target from.
Good idea w/the papertuner. What do you use as a back stop?

Right now I set my Morrell bag on the benchtop. I made the tuner rack the same height as the bench top for that exact reason.

BUUUUT, I was thinking about making the exact thing you mentioned, I just need to find probably 2-3" PVC to hold the bag.

I'll make it the same height and probably put a platform that can be slid up and down the side pipes, using rods to hold the platform up when I want to use a block style target for broadhead practice.

That is straight up G Balls. I am surprised you are so modest about your engineering talent. :deer: Your son is pretty gangster as well. Did you use any purple primer? Painting that stuff on was always my favorite part.

I'm with Duke though, Potato gun was what the title brought to my mind.

I too have a PVC paper rack, but that shooting rack is saweet...definitely goin to have to fashion one of those up with an arrow tube on the corner this spring. Then a bag target holder with small pneumatic tires to roll it offroad style to wherever....then I too would be a highroller.

I will say, I got some plans from someone on HNI, and made a pretty kickass duck blind from PVC as well, 6 feet wide. It is a mothership of all PVC designs, I'll have to post it up.

Thanks Trev, I guess it is the Lego Nerd coming out in me as of late.

I really enjoy building stuff. Can't go as far as saying I am an engineer....but I can do the simple stuff. I would be curious to see the duck blind plans. Now that I started using PVC, there is no turning back. :d

I am gonna work up a target stand like in da woods mentioned, probably making a platform that you can raise and lower for block targets. Once I complete that I'll draw up some plans and post them on here along with a litany of pictures.

Gonna draw up some plans right now! :deer:

And P.S. Mason is pretty gangsta.

I don't think I've ever seen a non hunter with that much hunting stuff.......that's good work. LOL

A lot of folks don't hold much stock in paper tuning. I myself feel it's an invaluable tool for both tuning, and as you so quickly discovered........Form. The first thing people want to do is blame the bow, when 95% of the time, it's the dude holding the bow instead.

I, too thought a potato gun was in store. Nice work, though. Love the bow holder especially.
