It's all good. That's one thing I like about the hunting community - we can typically disagree with each other without being a-holes about it.
I added to this photo to my timeline this morning to highlight the good that hunters do for wildlife. I found it in the timeline photos for RMEF. They have one for every state. A little fun followed by positive education goes along way. Time to take advantage of it while there is some social media focus on hunting. Take the time to find and post the one for your state on Facebook.
you will likely never change the mind of someone who is hard-core enough to join any of the "anti-" organizations. But we can hope to represent our views and lifestyle tastefully and thoughtfully enough to keep the agnostic from going in that direction. Yeah I've got some stickers on my truck. But no catchy profane slogans or imagery that anyone could really complain about. I live too close to Chicago ( I should just stop this sentence right there) to encourage the brainless mob to slash one of my $400 35" tires. It's about knowing your surroundings and your audience. I'll haul my kill back to camp hanging off the back of my tailgate down 3 miles of dirt road. But if I'm hitting pavement, even in a semi-rural area; that deer's getting in the bed out of sight with the tailgate up. I just don't need the attention. Whether we like it or not; perception is too often reality and whether we want the title or not we are all not only guardians of our lifestyle but also ambassadors of it. They go hand in hand. I wish we had the strength in numbers to just say the hell with those who disagree, but the fact is we who hunt are MASSIVELY outnumbered by those who do not. We need to be mindful to keep the opinions of those who don't hunt from leaning in the opposite direction. That being said [ (c) Todd Graff ] there's nothing wrong with hijacking a stupid leftie meme and turning it to our own ends. (The Trump Chicken is a great example) so long as it is within reason. This PETA thing is one of those instances.
I love that this debate is on here, and you guys are highlighting different view points quite well. I think debate is a lost art today. I did not participate in the FB stuff, but I do see the humor in a lot of it. As a buddy of mine says, "...the left can't meme". It seems cheeky and tastefully done to me, but if even a few FB warriors come off looking like a bunch of ignorant a-holes parading around dead carcasses, then we lost ground in the perception department. Participate or don't. It's a personal decision about something I think all of us here are passionate about. I'll close with one of my favorite quotes: Never argue with stupid people. They will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience. --Mark Twain
I agree with the previous post that we are way outnumbered by people who don't hunt, when you shoot a buck do you let the dead head hang over the tailgate while you drive down the road or do you respectfully put the animal down on the bed? As much as it is a little funny is it worth the risk of causing a national feud? Isn't there enough of those going on? We hunt for the meat and we respect the animal who's life we take right? I hope so. So let's respect our own species and there beliefs. Like we said earlier we are out numbered in this "fight". Let's play it safe and back down from this one my fellow hunters so we don't somehow loose any right we have with this sport. If anything we should be trying to convince PETA that we are respectful people who respect the animals we are killing. Mike4christ
Maybe FB is not the best place to resist these people. But we do need to resist their attacks, what we as hunters do need to realize is that these people are gunning for our tradition and will strike the minute they get an opportunity. They are constantly waiting for an opportunity. whereas we seem to be asleep at the switch. It will be just like this whole statue thing, quick and seemingly from nowhere. Unless we are vigilant they will sweep the rug right from under us. There is no reasoning with these people, they will never see hunting as a respectable sport. All we can do is show them we respect the animals we are taking by respecting the life of the animal taking proper care of the Remains after dressing, taking the best possible shot every time in hopes the animal dies quickly, and " hiding" the animal on the way to our butchers. Yes we may never change there minds but let's not give them more reasons to try and take away our hunting rights, and stereotype us all as hillbillies out murdering animals for the heck of it. I love this sport and hope to pass it down threw the generations of my family and the best way to do that is to do it the proper way the lawful way and the moral way. Mike4christ
I have respect for those who are anti as long as they mind there own. My neighbors at my old house respectfully asked me if I could close my garage doors while my deer were hanging. No problem at all. Even though it sucked I made sure those doors were shut. It's not about rubbing anything in anyone's face BUT we still have to stand our ground. If PETA didn't go out of their way to sabotage and illegally harass us law abiding hunters then I don't think there would have been such an aggressive counter. They set the stage for this and then made pathetic false claims to save face. BS Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
I agree with you Mike, we shouldn't be militant or anything. But they do not see any part of this sport as respectful, they will never be understanding no matter how ethical we are. They will stop at nothing to outlaw our sport. Thankfully they do not have the power to yet. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
You guys go ahead and cower down to the limp wristed mental degenerates with bleeding hearts. Personally they can go to grass. I'll display my trophies and taken animals how the hellever I damnwell please and if they don't like it they are welcome to try to do something about it. They'll find out how redneck this redneck is and what it's like to be game in the view of a hunter. I've got zero tolerance for these pukes. I'm also not about to plaster their stupid organization's name on my trophy pics, makes no sense to me.
Oh I'm not cowering. The day they give me attitude I will skin and butcher with doors wide open. I was just being neighborly. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
It is a hard battle to win, like it or not our society is moving away from the outdoors. I fear This is only gonna get worse and worse until we become like The U.K. And other European countries where hunting is either banned or heavily regulated to the point of stupidity.
