I went out this morning. Saw nothing. They're out there somewhere. I hunted a ridge with lots of acorns--- and squirrels. It's still really warm here and the moon was bright . Maybe they ate all night.
Its times like this that I wish I had a kid so I could take them hunting for the Indiana youth season this weekend. Heck I wish I had a little cousin who hunted just so I could get out into the woods for a hunt!
Have to wait till the 1st. The wait is killing me. Thankfully I have a lot going on between now and then so should go fast. Playing in a golf tournament Thursday with the staff from Wilson Golf so can't wait for that!
looks like a cool front for the Midwest beginning of next week. Sunday eve might be a good sit before the rain moves in. Too bad I gotta wait till the 1st. I am excited but at the same time I think I've hit a lull in excitement. Months and months of preparing and excitement is exhausting. Also, I know I'll want to get out once or twice early Oct. but I'll be cussing the heat and bugs the whole time. lol come on Halloween!
Its still a week out but right now they have a high of 80 on opening day for me. I would like to see it back in the 70's but 80 is manageable.
The farmer just cut the corn blocking my view of the timber from my back yard. I have already seen a 150 inch ten point and a few other 130's this evening. Its really good to see deer to bad its private no hunting allowed. Lol I can look but I can't touch. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using Tapatalk
No he doesn't. Actually its kind of an odd story. The current owner found out the person who owned the 40 acre timber inherited it and lived in another state so he got ahold of them and offered to buy it which he did. His ultimate goal was to offer the 40 acres as trade to the old farmer who owned the 20 acres of ground surrounding his house. Well his plan backfired because the old farmer had always wanted that 40 and he felt like the new owner went behind his back to pull some shady deal. Well the down side to this 40 acres is its land locked with no access and there are about 5 different land owners around the property and they are giving him the run around and he hasn't been able to lock down the right of way to access the place. So this timber has just been sitting there untouched because the owner doesn't have easy access he wont let anyone hunt it. Like i said an odd story Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using Tapatalk
that's definitely an unfortunate mess. There are pieces of ground by me like that. It's always better for the deer to have a sanctuary than no habitat at all though. One particular piece of ground is 160 acres of Creek bottoms surrounded by ag fields. the crazy lady that inherited it is off her rocker and hates hunters. we have seen 180+ " deer in the fields. and no one can hunt it....which is why there's 180" deer there.
Well this time next week most of us will have the opportunity to finally get out and hunt. I don't normally wish for this but I hope I have a busy work week to help pass the time quicker!
Opener is today for me and I'm stuck at the office until noon. I'm trying something new this afternoon though. We have somewhere around 100,000 acres of national grassland right outside of where I live that I haven't bucked up and tried yet. So I'll be venturing out into God's country in hopes of filling a tag.
Anybody hit the woods yesterday? If so, did you see anything? Nothing for me. Having a random warmer spell today but then dropping to highs in the upper 50s/60s. Should be good.
Went out to my farm today to do some last minute things I wasn't able to get done till now and I am glad I did. I put in a brand new ladder stand last week and today went to cut shooting lanes for it. After a ton of cutting from the ground I climbed up to get a view from the stand and noticed it wobbling on the tree a lot more then when I put it in. Found out the top strap snapped. Thankfully I was able to fix it today but that could have been real bad if I went out opening morning and discovered it in the dark. I was also able to check a few cameras and the deer seem to have vanished. I know they are on the property just not near my cameras anymore so that was a huge disappointment. I do however have a coyote that is all over part of my farm right near one of my stands on a daily basis so early season I will be gunning for him!
Chance of rain off & on Saturday but only a high of 68 so I am pumped! My plan is to get to the farm mid morning then go swap cards in all the trail cameras. After reviewing the pics I will make the choice where to hunt. Hopefully it will be a good weekend Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using Tapatalk
Well as my season ended for me last Thursday. ( Vacation ended an had to go back to work) No luck for me during that part. Sorry everyone. But I still have whitetail archery only that starts Nov. 1 and runs till Dec. 19. So with strategy changes coming I'm hoping to lay down a nice whitetail. Good luck to everyone that is getting out now. Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
Hey guys I'm still around, haven't been hunting much lately though. Been too busy with house stuff. I won't jinx myself by posting but I may have some REALLY good news to share in the near future. Until then good luck.
