This has probably been one of my major complaints over the last several years.

With limited time to hunt, I don't like to skip out on any sits. BUT, I hunt for enjoyment and I take NONE in sitting in 35 mph winds (as is forecast for our opener). So here I am conflicted, with wanting to hunt because I don't get as many opportunities as I used to versus hunting in conditions that I loathe.

    Rant over.

If the conditions are miserable, just sit back and do something else you enjoy or work on something else that will improve your bowhunting game. Maybe it would be a good time to get out there and scout a bit while the weather is terrible.

I'm with you, Ryan. Seems like when the weather is perfect, I can't hunt. When I can, its warm and/or windy. I've found a solution in recent years to combat the frustration. When the weather is bad for hunting, I go fishing. :nana:

I know the feeling brother. I too have limited access to hunting opportunities. I am Network Engineer and am on-call every other week. But in October I’m on-call for three weeks solid. So I can't hunt while I'm on call (bad cell phone service). It seems every time I get the chance to go out its 30 + mph winds, 90 degrees out, or flooded. I only get one opportunity to hunt in October and it’s this Saturday (OCT 1st, IL opener). It’s suppose to get warm that day and full of sun. My only hope is that the farmer decides to start cutting his corn Friday and Saturday. That would get those deer moving around I'm sure. Last year I decided to hunt while I was back up on-call and had the #1 hit list buck in front of me about 80 yards. I am waiting for him to start my way when all of a sudden my phone starts vibrating. I checked my phone and it was the primary on call engineer. I texted him asking what he needed and then my boss calls me. Had to answer that one. Needless to say I had to get down and walk out; unfortunately, I had to walk towards that buck, Ninja style of course. I did not see him run off and luckily I still had trail cam pics of him under my stand after that.

Ryan, have you ever tried still hunting in a heavy wind? I mean it works with a gun, why not a bow?

?? As of now the weather channel is predicting the coldest day yet this fall for saturday

I know windy, rainy, warm days suck to hunt but you better believe if I had limited times to hunt, I would hunt.

High wind is great for still hunting. Perfect day to get into a stalk. I usually do this more gun season but if your alternative is not hunting, why not atleast go scout and bring your bow along incase that big rack jumps out in front of you. Goodluck!

I too just checked it again and 62 is the high 39 for the low:rock::tu::woot:, but its still going to be sunny:violin::cry: I guess that's not as bad as when I checked it on Monday; 77 was the high then and 56 for the low. Stupid weather forcast. I don't care if its 130 out and i am in my stand wearing nothing but shorts. I just hope that I at least see something.

Unfortunately, in the last few years I've seen some nice bucks in some crappy weather and I drive myself insane staying in when I could be out. Soooo, I go out and get skunked, wet, and windblown and take my chances.:)

I rarely see big bucks moving in high winds minus during the heat of the seeking/chasing phase of the rut. Give me lighter winds, rain, snow, hail.. you name it.. over high winds.. But like a few guys said, if you want to do some stalking on bedded deer, it may be your ticket. NCAA football might be a better option than those winds.

I actually relish the nasty weather.... except WIND. I don't know why, but for me, I see more and better bucks during crappy conditions. It's hard to hunt in them, but it still beats sitting on the couch.

I know the feeling about limited time this year. For the first time in lord knows how many years, I will not be able to hunt the majority of the PA rut due to being out of town for work for a week and a half. It's driving me insane. So I'm faced with the prospect of hunting all I can in October, regardless of weather conditions to get something done.

In the past I have stick to the ground or wandered around during heavy winds & crappy weather. But I can walk thru the woods any day I want, if I just want to "go for a walk".

I guess my attitudes have changed over the years. I'm not much for hunting in conditions I don't enjoy, I don't care if i kill one that bad.

I do like the fishing suggestion, I might try that if it's too terrible.
