I don’t get much time to hunt these days compared to what I’ve been used to in the past. High temps, heavy winds or heavy rain I could just skip because I knew I had plenty of time since I hunted almost daily.
Well now that I am down to 2, sometimes 3 times a week to hunt I get quite frustrated when those days coincide with the above mentioned weather patterns.
I have never been one to sit in terrible weather conditions and just happy to be there. So it is difficult being faced with the decision to hunt in conditions I don’t enjoy or not at all.

    Rant over, carry on.

I hear ya, Ryan. While I'm not limited with time to the extent that you are, I still don't go out every day, and it seems lately the days I plan to go out, the weather is poor, or the wind requires me to sit in a less than ideal "compromise" stand. To compound matters worse, I HAD my chance a good buck, and blew it. With each passing day on the stand, I can't help but kick myself more and more wondering whether that was it for me. Oh well, I'm healthy I suppose, that's a positive:tu:

Ryan..I dont know how far your drive is to your hunting grounds, but I would at least hunt he prime times.... you may not get an all day sit, but you can be out there for when most deer ar killed...just my thoughts..

Rybo I hear you man. Tomorrow afternoon will only be my fifth hunt over the first two weeks of the season. I am trying to make it happen with limited hunting times, high temps, and downright poor hunting conditions it makes it difficult. BUT, I will make it happen ( I am an optimist). Today was the turning point in the weather conditions and fall is now upon us in Northern Virginia. Tomorrow it will be windy but the temps will be right around 60. I am hoping to score tomorrow afternoon.

It's why I haven't hunted since the opening Saturday (oct 2nd) and won't until next week sometime. Been warm - but mostly I've just been too busy - figure not worth trying to squeeze a hunt in until conditions are better and movement picks up...roll with the punches...bucks will be moving soon.

Hey last year on this weekend it rained like a SOB. Three wet sits for sure. Wind ain't fun, but it sure beats the heck out of rain.

This weather has been pretty crazy. The high temps didn't keep me out of the woods, I try to think of it this way... I see deer on their feet in July when the temps are in the 90's so I don't think its such a big deal in Oct. when the temp is 70. As far as rain goes, that is probably my favorite time to hunt (as long as it is not a pouring. I see so many more deer when its raining than any other time, they get uncomfortable and seem to get up and move around more. The wind on the other hand is something that I can't seem to go out in. This afternoon is supposed to be windy with gusts around 30 mph and I just don't see deer when the winds are over the 15 mph mark.

What really sucks is when you have a Friday off, the weather for the morning is great with a temp around 40 degrees, slight breeze, and you have a great stand set up for morning hunts.... and you are getting over a cold and coughing non-stop. My alarm went off at 5:15 a.m. this morning and I just turned it off, took some cough syrup and went back to bed. Hopefully my cold is gone because tomorrow is looking like the best day so far this season.

Yep, I remember that. I also remember having many more SW/SE winds last year than all the N/NW crap we're getting:mad:

This coming Wednesday will be the 1yr mark for my buck last year...hopefully I can get it done by then again this year:poke:

Funny, I just looked at my log, from this coming Monday last year till the end of the month last year, we had exactly 1 day with N in it. The rest were southernly. I'd love to see that again, but it likely won't happen.
