Talk about a beautiful day for hunting,
40 degrees, overcast slight wind outta the south west.
I went out with a buddy who doesnt get to hunt much, set him up in one of the doubles on a field edge, and walked back to my stand.
I was seein scrapes around on the way back there, so i decided i would mock scrape it up. put one in a most tactical location, set up in my stand at about 3:30 and gave it the college try. About 6:00 i hear movement out in front of me.
the stand is situated on the edge of a thicket of pin oaks, that the deer love to bed on, it is about a 100 yard wide strip of woods between some power lines and the oak field. right on an exit trail.
well i hear it going through the pin oak...struggleing. Antlers, branches. All the good noises. I am thinking "He is gonna hit the mowed path like every other deer, and walk right to my lane and the scrape and i will have my buck"
well hear him up the trail, then cross into to woods....Craps...right down wind, where i dont want him. Then i catch movement coming down the trail. Big bodied deer....
could it be? Nope...fawn in toe. Huge Nannie!! Then i hear running, look over my shoulder and he winded me!! Double crap!
grab my bow off the hook, and go to stand up, look over and the doe is already on my shooting lane with her face in the scrap! I dont even have a chance. she looks up the trail, then turns into the pin oaks!!
There is about 10 minutes left and its pretty freakin dark in there, so i get down, all kindsa pissed at myself for making that scrape, go get the scent bomb by the scrape, and hear a deer walking down the stand trail!! "Are you kidding me" well about this point i am thinking "What a day to leave the distress bleat at home" So i mouth one. I hear a trot towards me...wow. am i gonna kill a deer at 10 yards on the ground with 5 minutes left?!? Bleat again, more trotting
get a text "I took a shot, i am waiting to look" ok. so i start headin down the trail all slow. and i hear the deer has made it to the trail i just left...CRAP! I stomp my foot and blow. she takes off. ok thats done
2 hours later no blood, no crossbow bolt and i gotta go back tomorrow!!!
    talk about a crazy day!
    Oh and forgot to mention
the deer running away showed me a good look at his rack.... A nice 12 i have been waiting on all year!!!

I am goin back tomorrow to look for my buddies deer, and confirm a high shot
he saw 7 overall and i saw 4 talk about an active night!! Hopefully i will have the same scenerio tomorrow, cept i get to shower before i go out lol
    How was everone elses hunts?

Good luck finding your buddy's deer, I can imagine you were a little frustrated. Hopefully he bedded down and died. It doesn't look like rain is gonna hit down here until Friday, not sure about up there. Good luck on the bloodtrail tomorrow, post some pics when you find him.
