anyone else ever get to that point. Here is an overview of my previous 3 seasons.
05- I had a new job and only was able to hunt 5 or 6 times with no luck.

06- I finally gained permission from my mother in law to hunt our little 20 acre track of land. The back half of our land holds a large stock tank in the middle of a thicket. Behind that there has always been major buck activity. ANywhere from 5 to 15 rubs every year. So early summer I spent 2 full weeks clearing out a 1/2 acre opening in the middle of the woods, built and hung a double man tree stand, put up barb wire around it and planted a food plot back there. 2 weeks before season opens my brother in law decided he is going to put his mobil home back there and begins to whack down trees left and right only 50 yds from my set up. So for 2 weeks chainsaws are going nuts. Guess what MY SEASON WAS BLOWN! He knew of all the work I had done, heck he helped me hang the stand. I had spent all my time and energy on this that I did not keep my corp land scouted.

07- I gained access to hunt a little 35 acre tract at the end of my road. I had permission to walk it and explore it the previous year so I knew the caliber of deer and their travel routes from the previous year so come summer, I stayed off of it and put out some corn and a camera to get some pics. I would usually get 20 to 30 pics a week. I sat up 3 different stands mainly on the fringes to not spook them walking into the place. The week before season the guy comes over and basically "Yea, I gave you permission but a buddy of mine wants to sit up his kids on a deer so they can get one(BTW they are not kids, they are both teens, he has another lease and they are there all the time and all three hunt with high powered rifles!!!) and pretty much tells me I can hunt but to stay out of their way.

For the next 2 weeks (start of bow season) they are in and out ever 3 days or so bringing in trucks, trailers, setting up stands, feeders, ground blind boxes, ect. Guess what... no more pictures!!! and now it had been 2 years since I scouted the corp land. But this time when I head back to the corp land and set up, there are 10 stands within a 75 yds radius of mine! Dangit! I had never even scene that many people down there in the previous 5 yrs.

So then this year came along. We had no time to do any major scouting on our new lease but I have been on deer every trip. I just feel frustrated that it has been so long. I'm not giving up and I still have a couple of trips to make, I just hope my luck gets better.

Thanks for letting me vent, the wife says she is tired of hearing me whine and said I HAD to get a deer this year cuz she can't stand another year of it!:d

That totally sucks. I can't believe that your brother-in-law would do that to you. That would totally end any cival relationship I had with my brother-in-law and probably my sister as well.

Well good luck the rest of the season!

Sorry to hear about your patch of bad luck. Stick with it! Things are bound to turn out well if you keep a positive attitude and keep working hard!

man, you need to stop whining and get on some other land!
I hunt hardly any private land. I hunt public, in obscure places where the average hunter doesn't ever look. that is the advantage to hunting with a bow.
so many places get over looked. good places.
I don't know how it is by you, but we have big hardwoods and very little crop land. maybe only hayfields and I dont even have permission to hunt any of those. so I head to the thick stuff.
the balsams, and spruce swamps. ash swales, islands.
    stuff like that.
you'll know when you find areas that even during gun season dont get hunted, because there are deer there!
it might take you some time to study maps, plat books, drive around to see what you can find.
look for crossings in obvious spots like creek beds on public lands, funnels etc.
buy yourself a pair of good waders. that can be one of the best hunting investments a non landowner could ever buy.

take this time to scout as half of the fun. I have been working my butt off around the house the last few days, getting things ready for winter.
tomorrow I get to go scouting for this weekends hunt with my dad and son!
    I can hardly wait.
I'm guessing some of these areas havent been touched since opening weekend of gun and if I'm right on my hunch, a couple of the best spots havent been touched at all.

just kidding on the whining comment...get out there!!

It was my wife's brother and I was mad but it was one of those things that, he had to move somewhere on the place and he chose the prettiest spot. Right on the tank in the woods. I was just upset he did it right before the season.

I still have that stand up and and I put up a feeder. I am going to run it all year to see if I can get any deer back on there for next year. I hope to get my son on a deer next year.

That totally blows chunks. I think that I would have to hunt the public QDM areas.
