On our property in the mountains of Virginia we lack soft mast trees. Two years ago we planted a couple of apple and pear trees and they are coming alone quite nicely. Now, however, we're looking to plant some more mast producing trees in various locations around the property.

That being said, what would you all recommend planting to provide some variety? I read in Quality Whitetails that there is some type of pear tree that doesn't produce until late in the fall and early winter, but I can't quite remember the name of it. This seemed like it may be a good route to go simply to have a late producing tree, but, other than that, what does everyone think??

    Thanks in advance!

Don't know how they'll do in your area, but check persimmon trees! After the first frost the fruit turns sweet and do quite well in bringing in deer.
