I want to frost seed some clover into roughly an acre of my 3.3 of tillable on the land I purchased last year. I’m going to have beans and corn drilled into the other portion. From reading online I have gotten mixed ideas of when to do it. I’m in west north western Illinois wondering if anyone in the area has experience on when is a good time frame to spread the seed? Is it even that important when I do it? I have gotten conflicting reports on that as well. Also if anyone has a good perennial clover mix to recommend I’d love some input. It's pretty hard to screw up seeding clover. As far as mixes go, that's pretty hard to mess up as well. Only thing that comes to mind is to be careful and realize some (a very few) clovers are annuals and most of those are not as easy to frost seed. Red Mammoth, Ladino, Dutch white and Aslike is hard to beat for a mix in equal parts of red and white. Like 3#+1#+1#+1# respectively.
