I haven't been in a while but I used to go with my bow-fishing rig a lot in SC. I had a mini mag taped to my bow and would use a larger mag light taped to a piece of conduit to hold them. I'd find the frog and poke the conduit in the ground with the light shining on the frog while I stalked close enough for a shot.

With the bow... you can also get shots at the ones that jump in the water and think they are safe enough to float to the surface 20 feet away.

BTW... I always skinned out the whole frog and cooked all of it. There is a lot of good meat on the back and front legs, especially if you only shoot the biggest frogs. The first time you pull the nerves out though can be quite "un-nerving. Seriously... that quivering is creepy.

Did you use a lower pound bow?

45 lb. recurve. I always put a rubber grommet on my fish arrows to prevent shoot throughs.

Haven't went in several years. My brother, some buddies, and I used to go all the time. Most nights we would come back with 40+. It was a blast. Seems like life got in the way and it just never works out for us to go together anymore.

I watched one eat a baby duck by my dock once. Yes, that is right and swallowed it whole.

Have not went gigging ever, but love to eat them. Your home state of Indiana (covington) has a place called the beef house that some great frog legs.

Been a few years. Love gigging. Also like popping them with a .22 from the canoe.

Its been a lot of years since I've been. We just don't have the frogs around like we use to. Depending on the pond, I used a 22 with hollow points more than a gig. You could just stand in one spot and shoot several. And you could shoot any snakes you saw to.

Season opened up today. Going tonight, wish I had a bow to take them with. Other than hands, net and spear? what other methods are there?

Shooting them with a 22. That's the way I preferred to do it, 22 HP.

I saw that, unfortunately I don't know if I can find hollow point .22 right now.

Caught 4 between me and my friend. Missed probably 7 others, some big ones. Also broke a gig.

So, I know many of you have been hunting for many seasons and killed many things. Tonight I killed the frog (even though it had been on ice so it was probably dead) and then skin and cut it. What do you guys think about when you kill/cut up the frog? It felt so weird to be the one who could feel the skin and bones then feel it move as I cut it's spine. Right now a frog is the biggest thing ive killed next to a trout, id like to do coyotes turkies and squirrels if possible.

I just want to see how you guys get past the squeamishness that I and many other PETA people obviously feel. I don't support it, but I can see where the come from.

How good it is going to taste deep fried! :)

Wait till you throw them legs in the fryer and they jump around a little .. Now that is freaky!

I grew up in a farm family.. butchering animals is something I saw and did from an early age...

I also worked in the local hospital ER during high school as a janitor during summers on second shift..

Once you have done something like that the sight of blood and guts just doesn't bother you much...

I've messed around with human cadavers before, wasn't unnerving. Squeezing a frog and feeling it's guts and bones while I tear off its skin, required shots of rum.
