Or at least I was. I got permission for a friend to cross my lease to get to a landlocked chunk of woods behind mine. He is a rifle hunter and i usually dont rifle hunt locally so while I was up north hunting with my kids he was on my lease shooting everything that moved. The land owner got suspicious after about 10 shots opening morning so after the shots calmed down he went out and found my friend and 4 other individuals on his property no where near where they were supposed to be. To make a long story short he run them in the right direction. I go to work monday without any word of this yet. I sit in the breakroom listening to all the hunting stories and my friends brother spills the beans that my friend had shot 4 doe and 1 buck. We are only allowed 1 buck and 1 doe here in mcdonald county. I contacted the land owner and we decided to walk the property and found all the gut piles on my lease and four wheeler tracks within 100 yrds of his daughters home which is a half mile from the land that he was supposed to hunt. I convinced the ladowner not to press charges this time and that i would contact my friend and tell him to get his fourwheeler ( which is still sitting on my lease) and get the hell out. Only problem is my exfriend wont answer his phone and is on vacation. The ladowner is going to check his property twice a day until rifle season ends if he catches him he will press charges. Rumor has it that my exfriend didnt purchase his nonresident tags this year he instead used his old MO address. It will not turn out well and I dont think Im going to help him he is on his own. If my landowner decides that next year its not worth me hunting there because of my friend then my exfriend is probably gonna tote a butt whoopin. End of rant.

That stinks man, you try to help a friend out and they put your property in jeopardy and disrespect you. I hope nothing happens to your hunting spot.

Yep, sounds like an ass of a friend! Our gun season just ended here In Minnesota and a few of my "facebook friends" are bow hunters and gun hunters. One of the wives of my FB friends made a post saying her hubby shot a 6 point buck gun hunting and that there friend got a buck too and that they (2 person party) were going after a bonus doe. I commented saying really, didn't he also shoot a buck during bow season? I then asked where were they hunting as there's only one tag giving out In the area I/we hunt In. She then post's saying northern Minnesota which Is a few hours north of us where bonus tags are giving out. I knew right away she was full of ****. A few minutes later she deleted all of our post's on FB on this subject. This Is the typical BS that goes on during our gun season here every year. I can't stand It!!!!!!!!

I'd drop the dime and let the landowner know you were the one that did it. Show him you're by the book...backing away from this situation may leave doubt in his mind regarding situations down the road. You have the opportunity to set the bar now!

    Best wishes

I plan to make that phone call today after I dicuss it with the landowner. They found another gut pile around his wifes sanctuary spot where a small stream runs. She has a bench there and likes to let the horses drink and graze around after she rides in the mornings. I guess she also goes there to kick back and read a book for her R&R time.
I have to do something. They have a beautiful brown and white collie that rolled in it. NOT PRETTY!!

Wow that is almost what I will be in here this weekend. I was told by the land owner that no shotguns allowed anymore due to the houses that where put up that boarder his property. I have no problem with that but when my friend that hunts the other side of the river calls me and says " Are you going to be shotgun hunting out there?" and my reply was "He told me we are NOT to have guns out there." He then said Oh. I just have that gut feeling that he is still going to go out and now probably sit in my stand. I have been hunting this spot for 13 years and he has for 5. If I lose this spot due to him I am not going to be happy! That is why I want to purchase my own ground and that way I know and can have who ever and make my rules. Then if you dont like it off you go. Just a matter of time for my property.

PS This thread should be a spot called "Kick Your Friends Butt Thread"!

I was just thinking that myself about the gut piles bigbuckdown! I would also move them out to somewhere they will not get seen. It also shows that you respect the property and that goes a long way! I think that is why I have been able to keep my spot so long. If they know you respect the wishes of the land owner and show that you respect the property that is a HUGE thing for them to know. I would have to report also! Tough shoes to be in and I am sorry for that for you.

Only way to help stop it is to report it. Exfriend or not it's our duty. It's not like it was a accident. Quite obvious he knew you were away and did whatever the F he wanted. What a disrespect to you and hunting in general.

You don't need that crap. Helping him get away with it serves no good to anyone. I'd be calling the gw today.

Contacted landlord and he is thinking about it. He has a hunting cabin on the back side and some livestock and dogs that run loose he is afraid of retaliation. I guess i understand. Called the poacher 2 times and didnt get an answer. I need to find his brother and get an address of his new home he just moved about 8 mnths ago. Ive never had to visit I usually just meet him at work. Hes single and never home anyway. Land owner has decided no one hunts tell rifle season is over including me. So much for letting my daughter fill her tag there. I have voluntered to mark all boundary lines and too make sure I am there next rifle season to regulate the property and give his wife some peace of mind. I will also help block off any and all access routes to the backside of the property. Ive got some real ass kissing to do if I want to get this worked out. The only good side to this is that all the deer that were witnessed being harvested were not mature. So i still have hope for harvesting a nice mature buck. HOPEFULLY

Its amazing how stupid some people can be. I had a friend ride along with me once to check some trail cams on my landowners property. On the way to the second cam we see a really nice mulie buck standing about 200 yards off the road. He got all pissed off at me because I wouldn't let him poach a buck with his .223. He also wanted to shoot it from the road out the passenger side window of my truck....I guess im just a jerk sometimes, Its hard to find quality hunting buddies anymore.

    mud,
That fella wasnt never a friend if he did some BS like that. He obviously doesnt have no respect for you,the law or any damn thing else.keep your cool and let the law handle it.I'd just take care of the fella's land & I'd let the property owner know that it wont happen again and even though things turned out like it did that you appreciate him and his land! maybe bring a dish over come thanksgiving and some flowers for the boss. His wife ha-ha you know if mama's happy then everythings ok! good luck mud I hate you got to deal with this bull$hit!

Sounds like you're making the best of a bad situation. Do all that you need to do to make things right between you and the landowner. Best wishes to you and yours.

Bro, I would just have the landowner press charges. Chances are if he did it this time, he's done it before. Why are you even going to stand up for you friend after he did that? No friend would do that to someone they care for. Think about it if you were the landowner, you let a kid hunt and he brings a friend and his friend massacres way over the limit. Then you approach the kid about it, and he is trying to defend his friend? That would make me say no hunting for you ever again, because that would look like you are trying to protect him. Goodluck in the situation.
