My buddy bought the same bow as me, 2011 Hoyt Rampage. Mine is set on a 28"/70#. I'm using a 340 spine arrow, 9.3 shaft, 100 broadhead with blazer vanes equaling out to be roughly a 400 grain arrow.

His bow is set on 27"/60#. He hit the chronograph and only got 228fps. He was using my arrows. He asked me what kind of arrows he should get, but I want to get a few other opinions first.

My suggestion was: 400 spine/7.3gpi shaft/75grain broadhead equaling to about a 341 grain arrow. I mean 228fps is extremely slow. What are your suggestions for his arrow shaft/spine/broadhead? Thanks for the 2nd opinions.

46.2 (400 gr.) VS. 39.3 ft/lbs (341 gr) I would personally go with the heavier arrow. Speed is over rated if you ask me. The bow will also be quieter with the heavier arrow.

228fps is plenty fast to kill a deer. Personally I prefer a heavier arrow, I don't even bother shooting mine through a chrono. I couldn't care less about the fps.

I don't are about speed either, but I did shoot it through a chronograph just for kicks. I'm shooting a whopping 258 fps!! Of course, that's excellent considering my arrows weigh 531 grains.:tu:

To the OP: Personally, I wouldn't go with a 75 grain head. The resulting FOC percentage would be WAY too low for me. There's a lot more to consider than just total arrow weight.

228fps with a 400 grain arrow is 46ft/lbs of kinetic energy.

250fps with a 341 grain arrow is 47.3ft/lbs of kinetic energy.

So a lil more kinetic energy and speed both with the lighter arrow but Idk if it's worth the extra cash.
