Any body have any recommendations on freeze dried food for just in case? My mountain house stuff is expiring. I don't want to pay to much but want something decent.

Have you heard of Spam, that stuff is amazing. You can make all kids of stuff with it. Just imagine the character Bubba in the movie Forrest Gump and every time he lists a way to fix shrimp, substitute Spam. I don't think it ever goes good....I mean goes bad.:spam:

Probably not a bad idea to have a few tins of that around the house.

Spam fritters are awesome. That’s maybe just an English thing though

Haha, well then England gets two points. 1. Kate Beckinsale and 2. Spam fritters.

If you had freeze dried food for just in case and nothing happened and the freeze dried food expired isn't that a sign?

I think I deleted the photo from my phone but in Saipan they love the spam and they have no less than a dozen different flavors in a grocery store. Hawaii too, WW2 influence and cheap. My guilty spam favorite. Spam and egg with cheese and mayo on toast, add a slice of home grown tomatoes when in season.

The only way I like Spam is cooked with a honey glaze. Otherwise I apply Mick Dundee's quote about the outback food, "Ya cun leev oneet, but it tysts lyke sheet".

Used to eat fried Spam as a kid. Now we take Treet to Canada on the annual fishing trip because it’s “cheaper” than Spam. It’s a must bring food. It’s also a running joke amongst the guys regarding our trip budget and how we can spend more on beer since we didn’t buy the more expensive Spam.

    Good stuff!

Oh my...that reminds me of an epiphany I heard one of the first US astronauts had while waiting for liftoff to the moon. At t-minus 20sec the thought occurred to him that his ass was strapped to the worlds most powerful rocket that was made from parts bought from the cheapest bid contracts submitted.

Anytime I go on a hunting trip I take a good supply of these. Delicious and nutritious. Contains all the nutrients a man needs. :)

Actually, I do take a few of these for a quick snack here and there, but I mostly load up with Mountain House meals.

I used to carry summer sausage with me for lunch in the field. Then one day I got tired of chewing and started making shakes out of MSG, salt and heavy water. I figured screw it, who needs the meat part.

The mountain house packages were cheaper than the MRE's I looked at. Mountain house claims to have a 30 year shelf life and taste guarantee on their products. I have eaten some of their products that have been expired before and thought they were fine.
I might get some MRE's dig a firing position in the back yard and take a trip down memory lane just for kicks though.
