I am almost at a loss. Probably sounds mean and Like I don't care about poor people, but this is BS and a perfect example of our screwed up government and why our taxes are so high.

NY City will now get federal funding for 1.1 million students, they don't feed 1.1 million so they are just getting extra federal dollars for kids they don't feed.

yes there are poor and we should help them out. but the amount of families that qualify is asinine. You will never convince me that 75% of NY City families with school kids cannot afford $10 or so a week for their kids lunch. And if they can't, pack a damn lunch. My kids normally don't eat school lunch because it sucks, but I can feed all three of them for a week on what it would cost for 2 days in school lunch.

This is what I see happening. If my kids district wants to change prices, they have to come to use parents and local tax payers to do so. If they can get everything paid by taxes, they only need to deal with elected representatives to increase their funding. this is a huge attempt to separate us from the process.

So many politicians are in it to be important rather than useful.

Go to any school and take a look at how many kids don't have a lunch or money for lunch or come to school with no breakfast.

Yes there are, and we already have programs in place to cover low income families. We don't need to expand that to cover everybody.

For NY, they will be getting money for 1.1 million students, Just for lunch alone, that comes to 2.3 million per day, 425million per school year. Double that with breakfast also. Now they are not feeding all those students even though they can claim them. Even if we assume they are feeding both meals to 80% of the students, that is still 170million in their pocket.

and you can bet that once parents are not watching price anymore, it will magically increase.

Why are federal tax dollars being used to feed a city? Our country is slowly rolling toward socialism.

Many parents could simply stop drinking a couple of 6 packs of beer a week and could afford to make healthy lunches for 2 kids.

I can go down and get two loaves of bread and sandwich meat for $12 . And maybe some chips and that comes to $15. I could feed 2 kids lunch every day for a week and still have some left over. If a parent can't afford $1-$1.50 for lunch for their kid maybe they shouldn't have children.

That being said, I love kids. I taught for 6 years and my wife taught for 12 years. There are programs in place that will help the lower 30% economically challenged kids. I have no problem helping those kids out but I don't want to be paying for massive waste and abuse like NYC is destined to have when this crap rolls out.

They could make sure their kids get their school work done, get good grades and be respectful to their teachers. You ask a lot to make them a simple lunch;(

Not as slowly as one would think, it has become a socialist nanny state.
