I was given a free guided hunt in Kansas today. Most free items I get I try and figure a way to give them out in some sort of contest. I am going to do the same thing with this hunt. I am not sure how exactly I am going to do this yet but the wheels are spinning. There will definitely be chances for people who purchase products, fans of our Facebook page and I would like to involve forums I like, if we can figure a way to do it. Anyone have any suggestions I would appreciate hearing them...oh and I have already heard the just give it to me from a few of my friends :)

The only issue i see with you giving away the hunt is that you probably got it through a personal relationship you've established in the hunting community, right? Giving it away in a contest you could be sending a complete a-hole on the hunt. I wouldn't wish that on a guide I call a friend.

I hope it has to do with real customers cuz I will be placing a big order with you soon so will be in the running lol. I do agree a bit with the post above as well though, it would be a tough call for sure.

The way I look at it. You almost need to test drive a contest like this.

Like Paul stated, you don't want to leave a bad taste in the mouth of a favor giver. Conversely, you want to leave a good taste in the mouth of the contest winner.

What I would recommend is that you take someone who has not taken any particularly large deer (me), who can provide honest feedback for future give-aways (me), and someone who would be a good voice for your company (ME).:tu:

On a serious side, perhaps you could treat it like a scholarship. Have contestants write why they want the hunt and what it would mean. Might make for a harder, more involved, decision but it would weed out (most) of the A-holes.

I totaly understand what you are saying. It is a friend of mine, when he told me about it this morning he brought up giving it away in some type of contest.

Its a chance that would be taken if the hunt was given away at an auction or benefit. I'm sure the owner is aware.

All good statements above. When would the hunt be for? Dates i mean. Because it would be cool for me to win something like this it might not be practical with me being in college. If you could get maybe a short email sent to you saying what that person does and why they should get this hunt, it might give you an idea of who you are dealing with and you can weed out if needed. I know that would be really time consuming but its just an idea.

This will definitely be some sort of raffle where a ticket gets pulled out of a jar. Even though it is free I have to get some marketing play out of it or I would just go myself. Right now I am thinking if you purchase a product you get a ticket, if you submit a trail camera pic or a hero shot on our website you get a ticket (only one per contest not one per entry or Pat would stuff the ballot box), we will have a post on our Facebook page and you will get a ticket for commenting or liking a specific item, I am not sure how to incorporate my favorite forums yet but I am sure it can be done. I am also going to talk to a few other companies to see if they would be willing to add some product to turn it into a hunting package. We will also go and film the hunt so we can get some promotional use for the contributors.

You should give it away to someone who is stuck hunting public land. In a state where even if the winner wantedvto put out minerals...it would be illegal..

So let's say a public land hunter in Illinois.

Of course that doesn't narrow it down much, so how about them being a left-handed shooter too. Who's bow is at least 5 years old.

    And a woman.

Who drives a prius. And raises chickens......

    Bwahahhaha!

Sounds like a good idea. You could have trail cam picture sent to a certain email with name and info. Then you can have an idea of who is already in.

Do you know when this would be for yet or no?

It will be for the muzzleloader opener in 2014. We are going to give people a chance to gain tickets all year and pick about this time next year so the winner has time to apply for a tag.

You kill more deer then most private land hunters with new bows that I know. And all of them are men lol. So I think you should be taken out of the running!

I am sure whoever gets picked I can find someone to work with them before the hunt if they needed.

Sweet. That would be very helpful to someone like me who has never hunted with a gun. :busted: but i think it would be really fun. And thanks for the opportunity to have a chance for something like this.

That all seems like a lot of work. Without having a guilty conscious I believe you should just have a sign up page. Have the person(s) submit their info so you can use it for direct marketing purposes. Draw the winner at random.

I can't believe how many manufacturer don't have good e-mail marketing campaigns. With tools like MailChimp it doesn't get much easier!

I say lets all vote on ideas! Here is my idea!

I say lets take a disabled kid hunting and let them enjoy the great outdoors!
