I hunt about 30 acres of a family members land. They sold the house and the front 5 acres years ago. The guy who bought the house does not hunt but he has a neighbor/friend that wanted to hunt his 5 acres. He told the guy he could hunt the 5 acres out behind the house. Without the homeowners knowledge his friend takes his tractor out behind the house and put in a nice food plot. The only thing is that the food plot is well on to our family's property. When the hunter was contacted and told that he was trespassing he was not happy. Then the guy starts trying to arrange a deal that we can hunt his food plot and stand if he can use the land. It was explained to him that he doesnt have a food plot because it was on our land. He said he lived close and it made it easy for him to hunt there. He was told that it is easy to hunt when you just trespass. He didnt like that comment either but it is what it is. The homeowner is the one that contacted us to let us know that his friend had crossed the line and that he would not be allowed to hunt there. The only positive is that I now have a nice food plot of radishes and clover and I didnt have to put in the work. I am pretty sure the guy who put in the food plot is one of the trespassers we have on trail cam in the spring hunting mushrooms.
Awesome. Hang a trail camera up high near the food plot to see if he is still trying to use it. He may come back and spray and kill the food plot since he cannot use it.
LOL that's a funny story! I'd bet the guy will trespass again and hit it with a good dose of round-up just to spite you too. Better keep an eye on things.
You might as well call a agent and walk him though the whole story and put up some trail cams..set them over 7 feet up high pointed down on trails where you might catch him coming in.He will be back you can count on that. Also put a lock on anything you would like to keep.
I cant believe people. Since when does "yes you can hunt my 5 acres" mean "bring in giant tractor, rip up property owners land, plant food plot" Not to mention try to strike a deal with you when you tell him he's been trespassing. The nerve.
I put trail cams on food plot. I will put pics up this weekend if I get out to check the cams. Hopefully the deer are using the plot and the trespasser hasn't come back
He wouldn't be trespassing if you gave him permission. And if you gave him permission he could probably be fairly handy. Shoot maybe he'd plant more plots every year. Just work out the whole leave this big ol buck alone kinda deal. Maybe not tho. Who knows your situation. Just sounds like if you're gonna have someone around, someone who is willing to make improvements may not be all that bad. Especially with a little guidance.
As many have said, be careful cause you don't know who you are dealing with. I like bones435 idea if it would work.
Cant see me buddying up with guy who blatantly trespassed, and knocked down trees and everything else with his tractor. He knew exactly where the property line ended. It ends right where his buddy stops mowing behind the house.
time to get posted signs up as described by your local laws, and document when and what was said to him when he was told not to tresspass again, some states require a verbal warning, or even a 2nd written notice be sent before a tresspasser can be cited. get your ducks in a row and expect him to be back
