Tomorrow morning will be 13mph winds and by 9AM 25mph winds until Tuesday morning. The dang deer don't move worth beans where I hunt when it gets over 15mph.:computer:
Wish I had the opportunity for the wind to screw up my hunt. Hopefully I can get out next weekend for a little bit.
Same for me I'm all loaded for a morning hunt but the wind thing is not looking to make a positive hunt.
Im in the very same Boat as you... Mon, Tues, Wed, all winds from 15mph And My deer hate the wind....
Just checked and now the wind is 17-20mph with 30mph gusts. The weather will be 25mph winds by 9AM with gusts up to 50mph. I have never seen deer move at my spot above 15-20mph so looks like I'll wait till tomorrow morning and hunt the 12-15mph with snow condition. I am off until November 15th plus the Mojito Bandito is going out this morning. Fricken wind!!!
You will score I can feel it bro. I have a sweat spot thats perfect for this kind of day later this afternoon.
Posted: Sun Oct 26, 2008 11:59 am Post subject: I used the winds to my advantage and slipped within 60 yards of where a big buck has been bedding. We have been seeing him get up and move from his bed from a observation stand. The conditions were finally right to slip in close. Wind gives deer a disadvantage in all there senses. I moved when the wind blew covering my sound and blending in with the moving vegetation and set up my stand by climbing the back side of the tree where I would no be visible. The bed is in some dogwood about 10 yards from an open grassy area to the West. To the East of the bed is a wooded valley. The Wind was blowing from the West / S, West across the open area into the wooded valley. The bed is ideal for for a buck to bed there with an East or N. East wind where he can see the open field and wind the valley. I new the buck might not be there cause of the major wind disadvantage but opted tp try it anyway cause he was bedding there on such a routine... No dice. I am going to have to wait till the buck gets "his" wind advantage back and then set up to whatever side gives me the wind blowing just off from his bed so he feels safe but I can still kill him...
Dan the man you crossed my mind when this thread was posted. Glad to see some input here. Raceway you better read the obama blog thread.:d T
Bukmastr- I thought about a stalk and called a landowner I have permission to hunt but rarely get out to, so i could play on the field edges and try to get them in the corn. No dice, the corn is out so I then thought about plan B. The spot I primarily hunt has 13 acres next to it that lies lower than most of the area and we can walk and stalk it. I played that one out in my head and realized I'd still be upwind in most of the area coming in since I got winds out of the west. Tomorrow will have some wind but it's supposed to flurry, I'll try the stand in morning and maybe a mid afternoon ambush on a funnel spot. If that doesn't pan out I might be going in the thick stuff. Luckily I have plenty more time off to get the 10 or 11 that I am after. I really wanted to tag out early this year so I could hit Wisconsin with Peakrut.
Yeah, the wind definitely sucks. I throw in the towel for the AM hunt and decided to sleep in and make the wife happy by doing stuff with her today instead of spending it in a tree. Mike and I will be gone Nov 1-10 so there will be plenty of time for us to kill some deer. For now, I'm gonna chillax, make some scrambled eggs and bacon, and watch a little football.
Hey- I'll be in Brown County the 5-9th so give me a call if you guys are up to no good or get a slammer on the ground. If I remember right we are only a mile or two away from you all. We will be living it up in a sweet little farmhouse with two channels of TV!
Yesterday i saw plenty of deer, a nice buck a ways off. I guess the little button bucks have been chased away by moms cuz two different ones were around. I was hopeful for the morning hunt but it was very windy/gusty. Yeah I'm gonna get some yardwork out of the way!
